I'm actually selling all my balcony plants -cheaper than the souk and they are very well looked after. I have a tropical garden at home - not easy in the UK so im quite good with plants.
A couple of lovely indoor ones too.

there's a great little plant shop behind SZR near to MMI, i bought two bougainvilleas on saturday. huge bushy one was 40 dh and tall one was 50. they are gorgeous and good in the sun.
satwa also has some good shops on Plant Street and prices are about the same as above.
Whereabouts is MMI on SZR please :-) I killed my bougains and need new ones :-(
the actual plant shop is JUST behind the four points sheraton. a little run of shops (cafe thing i think) and the shop is next to them.
really great stuff and the man is giddy as a goat to help you!
yes, drive down SZR towards AUH, take the service road then get onto the road that runs parallel to SZR behind the hotels (not sure of name sorry)
Will that be on my right heading in Abu Dhabi direction on SZR i think i know where it is :-)
Also there is Satwa plant shops, all on one road, just behind the Iranian hospital. The cheapest place ive found.
Maybe grow some herbs- basil does well in half shade.
Good Luck

Grow herbs !!!!!!! thats what im doing at the moment and they are fantastic ....
I have a small bay tree Bush thing.. some Corriander that i grew from seed.. some basil that a friend clipped off and some chillis !! I have to pick an Aubergine plant up from here.. she basically clips them and puts some root grow (?) on them and they start growing roots and then she pots them !
I plan on growing some Tomatoes too... my son loves it !
I have gardened in Canada and that is it, and the plants that I am familiar with are likely not going to thrive on my balcony. Can anyone recommend some good websites or good places (garden center maybe?) that I could visit to learn a bit about what plants would do well and thrive in a balcony setting? I'm hoping for something that flowers and has a long blooming season.
What do other people have for plants?
My balcony only gets about 2.5 hours of partial sunlight in the morning then is shaded the rest of the day.
