I have bought some wall mounted photo shelves from IKEA and need to get it fixed. Quotation of "Jim will fix it" is very high for the work. Can anyone recommend someone for this work , someone who won't charge a fortune?

JWFI charges a Dhs 100 call out fee, and Dhs 200 per hour (possibly for the first hour only and then Dhs 100 per hour, not sure!). They do bill in half hour intervals though, so last time they did a 20 min job for me they charged me Dhs 200 (Dhs 100 call out + Dhs 100 for 30 min). They are still by far the most professional company and have trained, polite staff. The boys who did the job for me said I still had 10 minutes and did I need anything else done, which I thought was very kind of them. As far as I'm aware, they don't charge 'per job' unless it's something specific like A/C cleaning, which is per unit. They are also transparent and upfront about the fees when booking, which I like. A shelf would normally take 10-15 min to put up, if it needs drilling, so 6 shelves would take about 1.5 hrs. I would expect to pay something like Dhs 400 for this job with JWFI based on their fees. I agree that's still quite a bit when compared to the cost of the shelves so perhaps in your case a solo handyman, rather than a company, would be better suited for the job. There have been a few recommended on this forum.

Around 600 Dhs for about 6 shelves -that needed only 2x drilling each. Total Price of all the shelves is 1/3 of this :-( I can't believe they quoted you that. They are 250 dhs per hour. Do they think it will take more than 2 h? I would phone and ask again. They might have misunderstood what you wanted done. I used them a few times and although a bit pricey, nothing outrageous. Tend to agree...not the cheapest but when ever i've used them they've been very good.

Yikes, better to go and buy a drill and do the work yourself. My husband has mounted those before and it's super easy. No way it would take even 30 minutes to do 4 or 5. Maybe they have a 1 hour minimum charge for this type of work (which is understandable). So perhaps find a couple other handyman type of stuff to do to fill up the time?

They were not well rated on EW a long time ago. Do you not have a "building owner/management company" like Emaar that have their maintenance company like Emeril? - which I am not recommending but who can get job done for less I should think. Actually I think Emaar will also give some other names for jobs like this.
