I'm going to finally get myself a kindle, but don't know why I would pay 3G at significant cost? Any advice kindle owners? TIA.

I have only WiFi on mine and I think you don't really need the 3G. You can connect your Kindle to their book store anywhere where there is a WiFi (ie home, hotel, shopping malls, airports etc) so if you go abroad it doesn't mean you won't be able to download books. Personally I do all the downlads at home and have a good selection on my Kindle for whatever occassion :)

You can keep hundreds on a Kindle! And even better, all of your kindle content is stored in your Amazon account, so if you delete something off the device but want to read it again later, you can re-download it from the "manage my kindle" section of your amazon account (which essentially gets created once you have a kindle registered to your account).

Thanks ladies. I can def see myself finishing a book, I'm constantly reading, but can you "house" more than one book on the device or do you purge and then get another. Apologies for the kindle ignorance...

Cakepop, the 3G is great as you can download for free from anywhere in the world. Many is the airport I've sat in having finished a book and ooh, in ten seconds flat, I've downloaded a new one via 3G to my Kindle. Well worth the extra initial outlay, to me. Anyway, enjoy, whatever you decide!

I went through the same dilemma when I bought my kindle a few years ago, and went with the wifi only. No regrets. The only time I access the internet is to buy books, and being able to do that from the comfort of home is more than enough - I don't feel the need to make spontaneous book purchases when I'm out. I have since gotten an iPad, and that, on the other hand, it great with 3G. I use it for lots of online stuff (email, FB, amazon, etc) and having the 3G flexibility makes it much more useful to me. But for the kindle (which I still use regularly) I think that wifi is absolutely fine.

Thanks Embo. As I just want to read, think I may save the 50 and go with wifi only.

I'm in the us right now so hoping to get it just before we head back! I'd be happy to bring it back for you, but I'm not positive it will get here in time. It comes with two options - wifi only or wifi/3G. The wifi is 99 usd and the 3G is 149.

I plan on getting the Kindle touch but noticed that the website says US customers only - are you using shop n ship to buy it? Sorry not sure about your question!
