Long lasting manicure - Gelish or Shellac?

No-one seems to be to know the difference between the two. Maybe it's down to personal preference. There's not really any difference in price.

Can anyone recommend either and/or the best place to get it done please?

TIA.

I had a Minx pedicure last year in the UK. It lasted for more than 4 weeks and you get loads of different colours/styles. It did dry the nails when I took them off but the beautician said to rub oil into them and they were fine. Not sure where to get it done in Dubai as havn't been here long. Nail Moda at Wafi shopping centre has a large variety of minx. Its pricey though but looks gorgeous.

The salon I go to use Jessica GELeration gel nail polish. My pedicures easily last 4 weeks chip free. I usually have to have it removed because of nail growth only. They stay shiney and beautiful.

Did Shellac at Gallina's, limited range of colors, but lasted 2 weeks absolutely immaculately and that with me working on a laptop all the time which usually means the tips in French manicure last a maximum of 2 days (if that). Not much service/ pampering/ wellness atmosphere in the salon, but very efficient. Agree however with previous posts- it's definitely quite bad for the nails as they use UV light to dry the polish and that really drys out the nails. Once you have it, you can't really remove it yourself but need to have it removed in a salon. All in all- I'd do it again for special occasions or extended events, but I find it a bit too radical for the nails to do it as a regular manicure..

I was a gel girl for too many years and then i decided to switch to Gellish. I think both Gellish and Shellac are equally as good and i like the variety of colours. I go to T&T for my gellish and am very heavy handed. No chips so far and they have been on week :-)

I prefer Shellac although both of them are overrated... not in this thread, though apparently! :)

I did Shellac, they say its the newwest thing and also they dont use the same technology as the gellish which is with the foil, well in canada they didnt. But either i think its bad to do, i did it this summer and my nails were all scratched up and thinned, they also say the blue light is no good cause of the radiation and may cause cancer, very dangerous for pregnant women. Thats the info i got.

I've tried both and they are the same. I think the difference is the brand name. I find they last longer than normal nail polish easily until the nail grows out. Tips and Toes do Gelish and N style do Shellac. It depends on the manicurist you get as to how well they will turn out.

Sounds good. I'm just after nail polish though - is Bio Sculpture overlays?

I haven't tried Gellish but have been having Bio Sculpture gel nails for months and am totally converted. My nails are actually much healthier and faster growing since I've started having them and it lasts me up to 3 weeks chip-free. I'm sure the results depend a lot on where you get them done - I go to The Nail Spa at Ibn Battuta.

As your going away maybe get a gel nails or acrylic put on to last the holiday they won't chip ...and they won't damage your nails to much if u get them taken off when u get back.

I used to get Gleish done every so often but stopped - whilst I was v happy with the finished look they destroyed my nails - last time I had them done was in April and its only just now that my nails have recovered

Really? That's not good. I was hoping for a one stop manicure to last me a few weeks away whilst on holiday!

I personally think they are both rubbish. If they are not put on properly and dried the right amount of time u can still get chips 4 days later. If nail varnish is put on properly it will stay on just as long with no chips I now just get normal nail varnish from n style ladies in midriff cc and the polish they put on lasts between 9 and 14 days with no chips. That's with 2 kids and me cleaning the house . Plus normal varnish doesn't dry out your nails as much as gelish.
