New Peugeot 207 .... 120 beeping!

I have a 207 on loan for 24 hours to test drive, I'm really loving it as it has all the gizmos I want and is nippy, but the 120 beeping will drive me nuts, I'm no speed merchant but if I do drive to Abu Dhabi and the limit for a long stretch of the AD road is 140 I will no doubt be cursing after the first few minutes.

Has anyone resolved this issue - just one beep to let you know you're going at 120 or ehm managed to disable it?

I really like this car and find it a much nicer ride and package than the Fiesta which was the other car on my list.

please no saying you don't like little cars, I love em, I don't want a big car and the 207 is perfect for me!

forget to metion done 230km on my Infinity ,before being mom ;) 195km of 207 dangerous !! edited by aline_jlt on 26/09/2012 Er you're actually saying, [b'>with a smiley face[/b'>, that you did 230 kph in your car? It doesn't natter it was 'before being mom', in an infinity or flipping landcruiser, what if you'd lost control and gone into another car? Where there were children, or a whole family or hey, just even someone else driving home to his/her family? I am appalled at this bragging honestly. i was in a autodrom/speed plot , i dont speed on public road,as if i lost control i cause problem for others. edited by aline_jlt on 27/09/2012

I think people who do irresponsible things like the above, let alone childishly think its cool to admit it, dont actually think there will ever be a consequence of it.

thank you both, I don't mind a single beep or a reminder every few minutes, but it's a constant siren! I have heard of people having it disabled, crazy thing is that 130-140 is allowed on some of the roads here and still the beep goes off at 120. My current Peugeot doesn't beep at all so I guess that was disabled at some point. Thanks again for your responses, I hope DH will like it and we can go forward and purchase it, after all he's paying for it! x when we bought our safari new from Nissan we asked about this, we did not want a constant beeping when within the speed limit (as you say some roads have a limit of 140kph). Our safari has a warning light that flashes on the dash but no noise and I am assuming that was legal when we purchased it from Nissan dealer. I would ask the dealer if this is an option with the Peugeot as it is still a warning and a reminder system it just doesn't assault your ears at the same time. when we bought our nissan patrol many moons ago it beeped once and flashed on the dash board but that was it. each car has different systems, our ford beeps to tell you you have reached 120 my chrysler beeps if you drive at 120 all the time, soyou have to drive under or over...

I think 120 is fast enough quite frankly for ANY car unless it's an emergency vehicle.

My current rental car has had the beep silenced....and this is from a well known rental company. It just flashes when you hit 120.

GCC Specs insist on this. It is illegal to sell a car without it, and to remove it yourself or to ask a workshop to do so.

Depends on the make and model of the car, sometimes the alarm is right under the dash so you can't get at it. And yes the speed limit is 120! There's is NO 140 limit. The alarm in my old Pajero was like a constant loud bell ringing lol just whacked the radio up. edited by Chocs01 on 26/09/2012

The limit is 120. I had a meeting recently with AD municipality and they confirmed they were going to be removing the 140 kph signs as they were so misleading. The signs stating 140kph are with the 20 kph 'buffer speed' which is going to be phased out

My husband had the 120 beep removed on our new VW cc. He had to sign a waiver from VW to say that he took full responsibility etc and they gave him a lecture on safety. Apparently it is a legal requirement to have a speed alarm/warning fitted to the car but the garages will remove the speed alarm. I guess that's a thing that could be argued in court.

I had mine removed by the agency for my 206 and now my VW Touareg. Someone did mention that's its illegal but both agencies knew nothing about it when I asked?
