Hi there,

Hubby and I will be leaving Dubai soon and were thinking of where he would like to have his "farewell" from work. There are a few young guys and a few older ones too, but most are married (or at least attached) so we wanted to go for a drink somewhere first and then dinner at another place later on. Hubby came home tonight and said that one of his workmates had suggested the Rattlesnake Bar for drinks first and then go to one of the restaurants at the Metropolitan Hotel on SZR. Neither of us have ever been there, and I don't really know where it is (I know SZR, but can't say I remember seeing a sign for the Metropolitan Hotel). We have been out tonight for dinner and think that our choice may be better, but does anybody know anything about the Metropolitan Hotel. We have tried to find some reviews online, but they are old (circa 2009) and are not very flattering if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance.

That is a huge eye opener for me. I would have thought that because prostitution is illegal these places would be watched (as everyone other than me seems to know about them) and shut down. Shows that Dubai really doesn't adhere to their own guidelines that they seem to hold everyone else to (as shown by the number of arrests for particular activities). Oh well. I suppose it is no different to anywhere else in the world.

Did Rattlesnake relocate somewhere? That's kind of what I want to know. If the reviews I read are legitimate then I can't imagine Dubai (or anywhere in the world) knocking down a place that would have made that much money (or though who the money goes to could be questionable). Bur Dubai has plenty of outlets that can replace the Rattlesnake lol. Cyclone did a roaring trade for years and that went a few years back :-)

I love the Jetty Lounge at One and Only Royal Mirage, but it's a bit expensive... However, they have a lot of options for dinner there as well. Thanks PMD, I will check this one out too. There are so many choices it is hard. We thought of going to the Burj, but not sure if it would be a bit too extravagant.

Hi JSW, Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't been to any of those places either. I have been in Dubai for 2 years and can't believe all the places I didn't know about. We had dinner last night at Pachangas in the Hilton on JBR. They have a beautiful bar area for drinks beforehand so we think that will be our place. A bit pricey, but hey you only live once right (and not sure if the bill will be ours anyway so GREAT). Anyways, thanks for the help, it is much appreciated.

Another great option could always be dinner at Aprons and Hammers and drinks at Barasti after?? A bit more casual

Depends on the area you want to eat and go out in, but friends of mine have said Toro Toro is lovely for food, and in the same building Grosvenor house 2 is the new Embassy club which is supposed to be great fun...

Just to clarify. As I said, neither my husband or I know of this place, it was a suggestion (probably some sort of joke by the sounds of it). We will not be going there as the reviews were "not flattering", I was just wondering. Geez some people are quick to have a shot at people on this forum (Derien) edited by bunnykins on 25/03/2012

The outside bar at the red Lion is just a concrete slab and the roof has been removed from Rattlesnake!!! There are lots of similar pubs around though 9probably nicer too). What about Nezeusassi in Al Manzil or left bank over the street then one of the restaurants around there?

I'd check the timing, because I thought the Metropolitan was closing down soon?
