Hi. Went to get my driving license converted to UAE one today and was told I needed an NOC letter from my husband. Does anyone know if it needs to be in Arabic or whether I can just take a typed English one from my husband? Don't want to turn up tomorrow to be turned away again. So frustrating! Also been told by sources that I can't hire a car if my UAE license is less than a year old as insurance will be invalid, which is ridiculous as I've been driving for the past 18 years in the uk! Help! in auh there is a proforma letter behind the desk that you just fill in the gaps. dont know if they do that in dxb. yes you do need this from your sponsor so if that is your hubs he fills it in, if its the company they fill it in. and if you have a uk licence you exchange this for a uae one and you can drive the same day you get your resident visa and your uae licence, there is no need to wait 1 year.

It is not that you need an NOC from your husband, you need an NOC from your [i'>sponsor [/i'> - because your DH is your sponsor, yes it comes from him. Your DH also needed one from [i'>his[/i'> sponsor, i.e. his company. The manager on the trade license had to sign & stamp it with the company stamp. ;)

Yea, I can't believe you need an NOC from your husband to drive here. I guess just need to accept the culture, but I still find that one so difficult to get used to. My friend's situation was even worse. She moved to Oman, and your father OR husband had to be physically present to give their no objection in order for you to get your license.

Thanks everyone. Well we went today and I took the most basic piece of paper with my husbands noc on that he had written in English. No problems and I now have my driving license! Yay

My husband wrote me a letter in English and I had no issues. The only document we've been required to provide in Arabic for anything was a salary certificate from my husband's employer and that was just for getting our nanny's visa sorted. Never required Arabic letters for anything else.

My DH just hand wrote me a letter in English on a piece of A4 paper and they accepted that in October when I transferred my UK to a UAE licence. I've been hiring from Dollar ever since we arrived - 1st on my UK license then on my UAE one. No problem with either. edited by Feefmick on 01/04/2013

Can I get the NOC translated at the traffic dept and any idea how much that would cost?

yes - you will need an Arabic NOC of your husband, it doesn't matter if you are both non-arabic speaker or not. In our company we made certain Arabic documents (like NOC's) for non-arabic speakers to make it easier for them.
