Im usually not one for wanting new clothes and have one or two fancy outfits I rotate out for fancy occasions. But this past Eid I realized I've just been wearing the same ones too often and want to try out a new style. I really like the Pakistani style with the long kameez, but how do I go about getting one?

And I'm still carrying around a lot of baby weight so would like to get it tailored. I rather get from a person (maybe someone who brings them back from Pak to sell?) than a ready-made shop, but am open to any suggestions!

I recently went to Adib at Dream Girl Tailor in Mina Bazaar (Mina Bazaar is for Indian/Pakistani style. Satwa is for Western style). I gave him a silk unstitched fabric pack from Sana Safinaz and he did a beautiful job. I told him that it must be Pakistani style as the cut is so important, but to be sure as it was my first pakistani style top with him, I did cheat by giving him another khamiz to copy the style. But, ultimately I was very impressed with his work.

Yes, tell Amsa that her old friend, Zainab (remind her - married to the crazy pathan!) referred you. I think she is a great tailor with fabulous and very creative ideas. She is a little slow sometimes because she is just so busy. But, in my opinion, she is worth it! Her number is: 0501445864 I believe she has her sister working with her now - haven't been for a while. I don't know her sister and don't know her name either.

My tailor's name is Asma. Her shop in very close to Ravi (on Baghdad Street) in Al Qusais, in Al Nahda 2 - opposite the Bhori Masjeed and opposite the Pakistani School. She is great - great ideas and designs - very artistic. She has a good selection of ready made clothes which she can retailor to fit perfectly and also fabric sets from which you can choose. Her numbers are: 0501445864; 0556449772 Let her know that Zainab sent you - she has been my friend for many years but haven't seen her lately. I don't know exactly what she charges as she always gave me very good discount but I know she is competitive in price.

Thanks so much Mrs B! I've seen some pretty interesting patter and color combinations! I admit, I'm a more simple/traditional kind of gal, so I'd like something a little tame ;) I'd like to try your tailor in Qusais, thank you very much! Also, what is the usual price of the whole set? I like the tight pants (choudidaar) style better.

You will find many tailors in Bur Dubai - Mena Bazaar and also in Al Qusais, Al Nahda 2 area. They also usually have selections of fabric sets from which you can choose. Ensure when you are getting it tailored that you tell them that you want Pakistani style - long khamis, rather than the Indian style khamis which is much shorter. Also, there are the Islamabad style trousers which have straight legs or you can go for the traditional punjabi style baggy pants. In Pakistan, in all the major cities, all the women wear the straight legged trouser these days and long khamis - different shapes, very colour, lots of different textures and fabrics and trimmings etc together - you can go wild!!!!! The ideas are limitless - just make sure you find a Pakistani tailor and not an Indian tailor as Pakistani tailors will have more interesting ideas. I can recommend one really great tailor in Qusais - she is a bit slow but very good with design. Let me know.
