Sinecod is good for a dry cough - been prescribed it for myself and children lots of times and it always works. Plus a spoonful of honey every day!

make a herbal tea with water , ginger, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, tea leaves, lemon juice, honey. Boil for 10 mins and then sip warm thru the day. Hope it makes you feel better!

I love you for posting this thread, I have been stuck with this cough for about 4 weeks now. Doctor says there nothing nothing she can give here in the UAE as we can't have codeine - so most meds are useless. Thanks for the herbal suggestions! I would love a full nights sleep ...

Don't know if this will help but........I had a persistant cough for ages which disappeared when I left Dubai and came back on return. Had been to the doc, who diagnosed bronchitis, but although the antibiotics and ivy leaf cough medicine helped, thay dod not clear it up. As soon as I realised it disappeared/returned according to whether I was in or out of the country, I tried an antihistamine and it stopped the night coughing immediately. Problem was, they knocked me for six - even the non-drowsy ones. Then we had the heavy rain and I haven't been troubled since. So, I'm convinced it was an allergy, but never got as far as finding out what. If it happens again I'll be straight off the a Dr specilaising in allergy. Hope you get it sorted - it really gets you down after a while.

I actually had this for about a month. Went to the doctors and found out it was bronchitus. They gave me a breathing treatment for about ten minutes and a presciption for antibiotics and inhaler. Its helped tremendously within the first few hours. Take a quick trip to the docs...you will feel much btter.

grate then boil some fresh ginger. Strain and add some honey (manuka if you can get your hands on it)... For a bit of variety, pop in a tea bag and milk if you like... Slowly sipping on this helped me.. ;)

My Mum swore by Melrosum (?sp) which was a herbal based cough medicine available in most pharmacies - personally I couldn't stand the taste, but it did help her loads.
