I think you would really struggle I'm afraid. School fees are extortionate and then there's housing fees (5% of your rent) and the DEWA (electric and water bills) are very high. Sit down and list every possible expense and then use the search tool on the forum to get an idea of the cost. With three children, I wouldn't risk it. Good luck in your decision.
also it is not mandatory to pay flights..i checked it out as we didnt get flights.
you also need to check what your insurance covers and whether it is direct billing or you pay and claim back
bear in mind that rent generally has to be paid in a couple of checks for the year. You may get lucky and be able to pay four checks a year but that is generally the best you can do.
it will be very tough. my husband was on about 8k a month more and we struggled.
our rent was 7k a month but for same place woild now be over 10k a month. primary school fees average at least 3.5k a month and secondary almost double. (we had one at primary and one at secondary but then both moved to secondary)hiring the most basic car is close to 2k a month.
Finding work as a spouse isnt easy..u often will only be offered local hire work which pays very badly. Childcare is another issue if u r working as is transport for ur child to school. sponsoring and paying a maid also adds up and this may be your only option for childcare if you are working.
parttime jobs are very difficult to find and often poorly paid.
If i were in same situation again i would try to negotiate for less salary but to have housing and school fees paid. Both housing and school fees have a tendency to rise every year.
Hi Maril,
You will find when you receive your work contract here, that you will see the salary broken down and listed in a way that includes housing, there is a percentage from the total of the salary that is counted as housing allowance. If I am not mistaken most companies do provide annual return tickets to country of origin - that used to be standard practice recognised by the Labour office, maybe this has changed in the last few years, someone who knows more here, can highlight this.
I cannot advise you on schools as I didn't get that far yet. But I can tell you after living here for so long I would say that this is doable indeed but you have to do a lot of research on where to live, where to shop, how to shop.
Also saving funds for emergencies over here is very important, small surprises can pop out of the blue, ie. traffic fines, medical occurrences that are not covered by insurance. A lot depends on your family, what you like to do, what kind of lifestyle are you seeking? etc.....Best of luck!
