I had to post as I can't quite believe what I witnessed. I was shopping in a popular store within MOE today when the security alarm sounded at the front of the store. I looked around as I was relatively close to the door looking at bags and wanted to make sure it wasn't me setting off the alarm. I heard the security guard shout 'excuse me' to a lady pushing a pram who had just exited the store. He then approached her and she quickly pulled out 2 scarves from under her pram, gave them to him and walked off. The security guard just returned to the store with the scarves. Now in my opinion this was a clear case of shoplifting. Do they not prosecute for shoplifting in Dubai?

If you couldn't hear what was being said maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked? I've 'stolen' things several times when out with my buggy. Last week I did it at Geant Easy in the Ranches, I put a bag of nappies under the buggy then the rest of the things in a basket. Forgot to take the nappies out the buggy to pay and only realised when I got to the car so had to dash back in with them and pay. It's an easy thing to do, particularly if you are being distracted by children and in a rush. A couple of years ago and I walked out of a clothing shop in MOE totally unaware that my 2 year old had been happily 'helping' me shop by putting bits and pieces under the buggy. Again, I had to return shamefaced and return them all.

I I used to work in a posh hotel over here and whenever a guest said they lost something the management would literally strip all the staff of that department and searched their rooms in the staff accommodation as well. . If that is strip in the literal sense then that is being over the top

I am really surprise, thanks for posting this. I thought that they would take the shoplifter straight to the police and would make a big deal out of it. Especially if it was a member of the staff. I used to work in a posh hotel over here and whenever a guest said they lost something the management would literally strip all the staff of that department and searched their rooms in the staff accommodation as well. The things were usually found by the guests though. I should stop leaving my handbag in the trolley when shopping.
