Thank you ladies, yes indeed its moth larvae! I'm going to throw away the damaged clothes sob sob, wash everything else and then leave out in the sun, clean my wardrobes with soapy water and then use clorax, hopefully this will do the trick for now. I dont want to use chemicals (have a toddler) and the pest control companies say we need to leave the house for 24 hours! Only time will tell if washing clothes and my vigorus cleaning of wardrobes pays off! Fingers crossed. I'm so annoyed!

We have tons of moths outside of our villa. We've had it sprayed 2x and no luck at getting rid of them. Anyone have any tips? Are you sure it's the moths? They cannot survive in the sun & heat.

I don't know if you can get it over here, but lavender is very good, too. I used to buy something in Waitrose in the UK. You need to go through all of your clothes/bags etc whatever you have in your wardrobe esp. if you have wool stuff as there must be the 'nests' somewhere (larvae cocoon attached to the clothes) - you need to try to get rid of those, just simply take it off with a tissue and destroy. They like to be in a dark, moist conditions - try to leave the wardrobe door open during the day when you are not around.

Good ole 'Good Housekeeping' magazine recommends freezing clothing for 24 hours in a sealed plastic bag! You need to methodically go through your entire wardrobe as this is the only way to kill the larvae that are doing the damage. Mothballs, tea tree oil and cedar woodonly keep the moths away; it's the larvae that do the damage. There is a severe increase in moth infestation, I was reading, and if your infestation is so bad, the only true way to stop it is to fumigate using a pest control service - this apparently involves fumigating the entire house twice, 2 or 3 weeks apart if I remember correctly. But that's a serious load of chemicals in the house then. I've put up with it (they mainly eat the children's clothes!!) and it doesn't seem to be getting any worse for me. Good luck.

If you really want the traditional mothballs you should find them easily enough it the supermarket, however, they are the traditional foul smelling ones containing Naphthalene! Think I'd try Tea Tree Oil forst!

If you don't find moth balls a natural alternative is Tea Tree Oil, just put a few drops on a cloth and place in with the clothes. Worked so far for me. hth Naphthalene not only smells awful but is carcinogenic too. edited by Di@DXB on 31/10/2011

Desertrose, Same thing happening to my clothes. I notice small holes appearing in t-shirts as well. I wonder if it's possible to get some moth balls to put in the cupboards. I had a look in some of the big stores but couldn't see any.

These are cloth moths.. Very common.. You need to get rid of all the clothes that have holes, clean the wardrobe and get it sprayed. Any damaged clothes will have those invisible moths.. Get the other clothes which were in the same wardrobe washed or dry cleaned.. Best of luck!!

In the last month or so I have noticed small holes appearing in my clothes, I just thought it was wear and tear ( old t-shirts etc) BUT all of a sudden in the last few days I have noticed big chunks missing out of a couple of brand new tops!! :( I emptied out my wardrobe, but can't find anything, no insects, nothing, just ruined clothes! Has anyone else experienced this? Did you find out what it was? I'm calling pest control first thing tomorrow! What on earth is eating my clothes?!
