I want to make a cheesecake and the recipe calls for sour cream can anyone tell me where I can find it in Dubai or can I use Labneh instead of the sour cream? Will the taste be different? Also I am looking for a sour cream which is reasonable in price. Can it be found in Carrefour in Mirdiff Mall?
Please help.

At Carrefore at MOE, the local and c4 sour cream is located next to the spreadable butter/margerines and across from the fruited yogurts. Save a slice for me!

Hi Ambreen, I got it at MOE so I have no idea about Mirdiff Carrefour; though I assume they would stock it as well.

Carrefour has the Nada brand. I bought it recently for 4.25 dhms. It comes in a light purple tub (200 grams) . Its with the regular cream as ARancher pointed out.

I've bought the local ones at le marche but I'm pretty sure Carrefour will have them too. They are near the regular cream in the dairy section.

For cheesecake, I usually use the Carrefore brand of sour cream. It's fairly inexpensive and does the job. However, if you want a good qulity sour cream, Knutson at Spinneys is very good, and at Safeway you can find a couple of different American brands as well as Canadian brands which are good as well. For a local brand beside Al Safa, I like the Nada brand -- its ok and fairly cheap price wise.

There are now a couple of local brands of sour cream, I think Al Safa is one. I have also used ordinary cream instead of sour cream for a baked cheese cake and it was fine. There's not much sour cream compared to the amount of cream cheese anyway, it's just to make the mixture a bit less thick.

I've used labneh before in cheese cake (the non bake kind) and it gives a youghourt-sour kind of tang (if that makes sense). Personally I liked it and would use it again (it was mixed with cream cheese). Must add that my recipe didn't call for sour cream in the first place, but was using some lemon juice. I don't know if labneh would work if you are making the baking-kind of cheese cake though. Hope this helps!

You can find it everywhere: Carrefour, Waitrose, Spinneys.....in the refrigerators near the yogurts..BUT.....you can prepare it by yourself mixing a white yogurt 125gr+125ml cream and half lemon juice squeezed and strained . Let it rest at room temperature for few hours before use it. ;)
