Hello ladies:
I was wondering if anyone has taken their Filipina nanny/helper to Canada on a visit visa for a few months? I am planning to enroll in a 4 month course in Toronto starting March. My family lives in Toronto however I have 2 young children so it'll be great to have a familiar pair of hands. If anyone has applied for their Filipina helper and been able to take her please let me know the process & timeline!
I've gone through the Canadian Embassy website in AD (visas are only processed through the embassy, not the consulate) and emailed them but haven't really gotten a good sense of the process and whether it's even possible for her to get a visa.
Thanks so much in advance!

Dear LePetitPrince: Thanks so much for your response; it gave me great relief! Will head to AD with hubby and nanny in the next week to sort out. I wrote to the embassy in AD, but they gave a non-specific response saying: "If you wish to employ your nanny in Canada, he or she must to through Canada's Live-in Caregiver Program. Please visit our website for more information." I don't think they really read through my email explaining that it would be for only a few months... or then they have changed the <6 month rule and consider even a few months to be employment (which would totally mess up my plans). Fingers crossed....

We did it last year...wasn't too difficult, and no she does not need work visa (only if you were going to be there 6 months +... Can only be done in Abu dhabi embassy, there are a few forms you have to fill out...make sure to go with nanny and sponsor (if it is your husband), in case you are missing any forms you can fill them out on the spot. Hand it in, pay, you get a response within few weeks. As long as she has been under your sponsorship for over one year, then you will have no problem. For documents needed look http://www.uae.gc.ca/ .... However is you live in Abu dhabi might be easier to just go pick up the documents (as we were missing one - website not so clear), and then you don't all have to go back to drop them off!!

Thanks for your reply mumto2 :) This is exactly my dilemma... what kind of visa would I have to apply for, and would it even be possible for her to get a visa under the circumstances? I've had friends who have taken their nannies to the US and to Western Europe; not sure how they get around the whole 'working while visiting' situation. Best to get Canadian-specific info if possible, but there seems to be no way to speak to a human being at the Consulate or Embassy!

Hmmm... I don't have any experience nor do I know the process but this could be a bit tricky as she will be working there and therefore will need a work visa. A work visa is not an easy process either as there a things that need to be met before a work visa is granted. Hope someone here can help you.
