Day 3 of living in Dubai so still getting used to things but I've been noticing some tiny sand coloured bugs, really tiny like tiny grains of rice. Is this normal here? I know my place got fumigated last week so perhaps this is totally normal living in a hot country but would be interested to know if this is normal or not?
I'm going to buy sealed containers tomorrow to store any opened foods regardless!

They are sugar ants - pest control told me. They appear from nowhere. Keep dried foods sealed. They are not a hazard but are unpleasant to see.

Have them too! They were even on the coffee table! Yuk! And last week I was clicking away on my iPad when I saw something too late and 'clicked' one of the pesky bugs! double yuk! Someone here mentioned sprinkling cornflour where u see them as apparently they eat this and can't tolerate it. I did that last weekend and about four days later I can't see any at the moment......might the cornflour have done it's magic? Fingers crossed!

Got them too. I did control them before spraying vinegar on all work surfaces, then stopped doing it and they are back. Need to give it a go again

I have them too! Had my house sprayed by pest control (inside and out) twice in the last two weeks and they are still appearing. I think they are small ants - sugar ants? i don't have any food exposed, it's all sealed and has been for years. They seem to be traveling through the walls. Not sure how to get rid of them, I'm going crazy inspecting every nook and cranny of my house all day, spray in hand to 'shoot' them on first sight!! Any advice would be great....

We too have tiny bugs in our kitchen and dining room. They look like tiny sand colored ants and no matter what I do I can't seem to get rid of them. Even found one crawling out of the keys on the computer keyboard! ICK!

Ive not just seen a couple in my kitchen but in the living room on my dark sofa and one on my laptop yesterday too. Where have they come from.? The kitchen? Really? It's a fair walk. Lol. Joking aside though, it makes me itch, even now, how do I get rid of them. Do i need to get pest control. I lay down on my sofa and cushions, I darent now :( If they're the little bugs that get in the dried food, you would need to check all your flour, rice, spices etc to find the source and throw it away. The bugs themselves do no harm but their droppings are a health hazard if consumed.

Thanks smilies for your reply. I'm not sure if they are what you're saying but perhaps so I will take a further look at them. Either way you've confirmed my suspicions that I should be keeping my dry opened food in sealed units. I'm just not sure grain mites would be just hanging around my work tops without food being present but maybe - will start further research! Thanks

Sounds like grain mites, but whatever they are you need to keep your dry food well sealed or they will get into everything. They appear very quickly here usually from one item that you bought that had them and then they spead throughout the pantry. I keep flour in the fridge. This may help you identity what kind you have http://lancaster.unl.edu/pest/resources/pantrypests304.shtml edited by dxbinthecity on 02/08/2012
