Thank you ladies
Nscm7859 - if those 31 counties you mention are EU-countries - then I am good (hopefully)
worried123 - I'll be going in about 2 weeks... if I cannot drive I'd love to fly to Qatar or Oman or Bahrain and spend a day or two there - do you want to come? ;)
seriously would be careful.... you are taking a car that's not yours, driving on a licence that you are not really allowed to drive on and leaving the country.... could end in tears

Visa run aside, be sure of the legalities of driving your son's car first or you may find you'll be up s**t creek if you have an accident.
I know for our vehicles drivers have to be over a certain age and have held a UAE licence for at least a year to be covered - check with your son's insurance company.
I would check with his insurance company and if they say it is okay, then get it in writing. Otherwise I wouldn't risk it as it seems to depend on which insurance company it is / which police officer is involved (if there was an accident / incident) / what day of the week it is and what side of bed the powers-that-be got out of bed on that particular day...
Hi,
I don't think it should be a problem.
The only time I have had my car rego checked is when we were driving one with export plates.
I suggest you take with you a letter of authorization from your son, the registration papers and a photocopy of his passport and visa, just incase.
Have you ever done a run before?
Also, cheeky to ask, but when are you planning to go?
I need to go to, and was wondering if I could come with you?
I'd pitch in for petrol of course!
Catch me on [email protected]
Thanks Vertical, I hope that helps!
Hello ladies, I'll be doing Hatta visa run shortly and would love to do the drive
myself.
Can I borrow my son's car or must I rent a car? I do not have UAE drivers license (but a Western one).
I do remember reading somewhere that in general tourists are only allowed to drive
rented cars, however, that doesn't apply to immediate family - like mother and son.
Is this (still) correct?
Thank you.
