Hello Ladies,

I am a 24 year old living in Jebel Ali. I have lived in Dubai for 19 years. I have 1 friend who I have known since we were 6 years old and we are the very best of friends. However, being here for so long, we have made many friends and we have also lost many friends. Most of them have gone back to their home countries and we keep in touch via facebook or email but we never really have any one but each other to socialise with in Dubai!
I have many friends in England when I go back for holidays and we all meet up and have a blast. So I don’t think I am difficult to get a long with.

My friend and I were discussing this last night. We are lonely! It was easy to meet people when we were in school but now that we are both working and on tight budgets, getting out and meeting new people seems so difficult. We would love to know how and where we could meet new people? We just want to do what other 20 something year olds are doing in Dubai!

Any advice?

Hey! I am 21 and just moved to Dubai a month ago- I am also looking for friends here. I am from Sydney, and most of the people I have met are a lot older. I'd love to make some new friends as I am a little lonely myself Edwina

sports, sports, sports... join a team. Netball, ladies rugby, touch rugby, ladies soccer, etc... there are plenty of team sports around and it's a sure way to find a social circle... duplays is a good place to start, but depending on the sport you want to practice, you can just call up a team and ask to join. in this transient place. every teams, regardless of the sport or your ability, is looking for new players.

Thank you all for your replies. I went out on a limb and I messaged an old work friend. Haven't seen him in years but we are meeting him on Thursday night for drinks! So that is a start. I also looked up those websites you mentioned khatooon, and I have signed up to a few meet ups. Just waiting for confirmation of my registration. Stepping outside your comfort zone is pretty easy to do when you are this lonely! Moons, I went to Jumeirah College. Where did you go?

Me and my best friend have the same problem here in Dubai . we were a part o a large group and over the years the group became smaller and smaller as many of us left the country or got married. we are a bit older than you guys . we are 29 :) To find new friends we both joined the Socialcirclesuae.com and meetup.com . there are plenty of fun events organised by members and we have met some really nice people there.

Hi I have also been here for about 20 years. What school did you go to?

Hey, Not really any advice, but I can sympathise. Been here 3 years nearly and the same age as you. Always worked in an office with no one even close to my age and its been so hard to meet people. Most 20 somethings also seem to spend their weekends getting trashed which is great once in a while but doesn't half get boring and expensive every weekend. There are a few other places ( expat forums) where they do regular meets for younger people. Maybe do some googling and you should come across them.

Just head to Rock Bottom in Tecom, most of the 20-somethings I know hang out there on a regular basis.

My DD has been here over a year and met only one friend, and with working and not really going out much it can be difficult to meet new people. May I suggest you try and look on FB and search for ladies meet ups in Dubai, there are a few groups out there.
