Hi Guys, I'm getting married in November and am on the look out for a good hair stylist and make up artist for my big day. I know there are a lot of salons around, but I'm looking for someone who is good with sensitive skin as well as make up and won't me look like something out of a Tim Burton movie. :) I'm also on a tight budget, so need someone who charges realistically and is not overpriced. Any suggestions from members who have had experience with local beauticians will be greatly helpful, as well as the ones I should avoid. Thanks so much....

Hi, I just had my make up done at Bobby Brown. It was great. The cost is 500 AED but then you can have that amount in credit if you buy stuff. maybe go for a trial make up and then get some products you will use for 500AED and then once you know what you like you can go back. they started my makeup and I didn't like it and they tried many different things till I was happy. Well worth the money and high quality products.

I would recommend Clare from Essentials salon, she does make up for all occasions. Also, they have a great team of hairdressers from UK to do your hair. Tel: 04 3955909

Hi amberdale! Congrats on your upcoming wedding. If you're on a tight budget, I would suggest not actually mentioning the word 'wedding' (lol). Instead you could just build up a relationship with a nice and reasonably priced beauty therapist, try her out a couple of times and go from there. I have noticed that bridal 'packages' in salons are often extortionaately priced. Also, if you are looking for a natural-ish look some of the styles popular here may be a bit OTT. I used to get my hair done at Pebbles, a small salon on SZR which is quite popular with EK crew. I noticed there were some pictures of a lovely, understated bride made up tastefully. I know she had her hair and make-up done there. Also when I got married (in the UK) I used the Body Shop who were very reasonable, did a great job AND let me keep all the make-up. All for about 20 or 30 quid! Not sure they offer the same service here but you could always check them out. Good luck and enjoy yout preps! KB x KarenBlixen - Thanks :) As you know weddings are expensive affairs, and stuff like this just happens to be very very expensive here. I've looked at some work, but it looks and kinda feels quite heavy and overdone. I will try out pebbles..thanks for the recommendation. :)

otherwise, I know a fantastic MUA here, by the name of Gulnaz, I can also give you her contact- not sure of her prices though and I dont think she does hair. AND- I also know of an incredible hair artist who I used to work with in Montreal. She currently lives in Lebanon but she travels to Dubai quite often, and for her service and quality of work- she very worth her price- which is not much. Cleo i have sent you an email i have lost your mobile number as had to replace my phone after the dog chewed it up this morning!

Make sure u get trials....(both hair and makeup...and have it done together)! Thats important cos hair up /down ..whatever way u go....wil look diff (hopefully better....:) ) when ur makeup done! My sister has very sensitive skin and is allergic to almost everything...so for my wedding (she was bridesmaid) she brought along her own makeup that she knows suits and the make up lady did it for her. She looked fab!! Trials cost money too....so when I say get trials done...have a good idea of what u want before hand! Discuss it with friends...especially close ones who know what ur dress is like!!B well prepared however for contradicting and different view points!!! Good luck :)

Hi Mazzarina, Thanks for the info. Can you please advice how much did all this cost you roughly? I saw in Cosmo that pastels had done the hair and makeup of the beauty director from Cosmo US for some award show. I had a ball to go to so I went along thinking if it was good enough for her it would be good enough for me. I cant remember the name of the girl who did my makeup at the al wasl branch but she told me she had done training with some international makeup artist who has done shoots in Vogue and for the BAFTAS. The results were fantastic - usually my skin is blotchy and I thought I could never wear eyeliner but it seems all I needed was an expert touch! The makeup lasted ages and all night, everyone was telling me how well I looked. My DH who usually hates when I have makeup applied professionally (for a wedding where I was a bridesmaid, we went to MAC and he kept calling me Christina Agueilera all day as the makeup was so heavy!) even loved it. No idea how much it was on its own as I also had my nails done and a facial. Hipe this helps!

I would also highly recommend Madis Haddad, she did my makeup and I was very happy with the result. She's Lebanese so she can do the dramatic Arabic style but also more toned down, shall we say "European" style. I did a one hour trial with two styles, for which I paid aed500, and then she deducted the amount from the total price for the make up on the day. I was impressed by her professionalism, punctuality, the cleanliness of her brushes/tools etc and most of all by her ability to make my skin look healthy and flawless without being 'cakey' or yellow-ish as they did at MAC for instance. As I'm not sure she would appreciate me posting her cellphone here, just let me know if you're interested and give me your email so I can pass along her contacts. Thanks for the recommendation Big Blue - would you be able to share how much she charged for your make up ?

Try Arwaa for Make up, from Beyond beauty salon in JBR. She was one of the make up team for the mission impossible cast in dubai!

Off the few weddings I have attended here, I have loved the makeup done by a girl whose business goes by the name of B Beautiful and another one is Mumtaz i think her business name may be blush by taz or something similar edited by Zeynab on 03/07/2011
