I am in need of clothing for the wedding of a Pakistani friend, to be held in Pakistan in about a month. She doesn't live here, so I can't easily get the bride's guidance!

Can anyone suggest a tailor or shop that I can go to, to get an outfit or two made as quickly as possible. I also wondered about Khaadi. Do they have clothing that I could wear as a wedding guest? Or do they tailor at reasonable prices?

Any suggestions or hints very much welcome. I am familiar with customs and culture as I have lived there, but it has been a while and I would like to wear something reasonably fashionable for the wedding.

So glad you found something you love. I am sure you will look fabulous. Just go and enjoy the experience. I think you said the wedding will take place in lahore - an interesting city in itself - historically - be sure to see the border flag raising or lowering - both sides do it and it is worthwhile seeing, also fabulous city for shopping - slippers, fabrics, leather just about everything you can think of. Have fun!!!!!!!! And, do let us know how it all went. :)

Have to say very big thankyous Apricot. I took a leap of faith, jumped in the car and went to this small exhibition, and came away with a mehndi outfit. Delighted with it and the ladies there were lovely.

Wedding will be in Lahore. I have begun to look around and now have a better feel for what I want. Thank you to all posters, I have visited these stores. Beautiful. mrsb. does your tailor make suggestions/have fabric, or would I need to go to her with a design already determined and fabric already purchased? Asma can do whatever you wish - you supply fabrics, she can get fabrics also. She has a great eye for trims, colours and fabrics that match and/or contrast. I do recommend her. She will also adjust/reshape ready aides to get them fitting like a tailored outfit.

There are fancier places to buy Pakistani clothes suitable for attending a wedding -Designer's Lounge, opp Sunset Mall on Beach Rd -Tima, opp Dubai Zoo on Beach Rd -Soiree, on Al Wasl Rd between Life Pharmacy and Safa Park -Kimaya, on Wasl Rd opp Dubai Zoo on Beach Rd Pakistani weddings tend to have 3 main events: the henna (mehndi) night, which has a more fashion-forward dress code, the wedding (elegant and sparkly) and the walima (again, elegant and sparkly). So, plan on wearing 3 different outfits. I googled Pakistani hairstyles recently and got some good ideas. Colored smoky eyeshadow is a preferred look. edited by Apricot on 23/01/2014 edited by Apricot on 23/01/2014

Where is the wedding being held? if it is in major city - Karachi or Islamabad - it would be fine for you to wear normal conservative western clothes to the wedding. The cities are not that conservative. However, if the wedding in the provinces or in my place, (the tribal area) then I suggest you get very conservative Pakistani clothes with long sleeves and large dupatta. I use a very well price tailor in Al Nahda 2 (Al Qasais). Asma: 0501445864. Enjoy!

Khaadi has some nice ones in their Khaadi Khaas section and totally appropriate for wedding guests. They have a sale on so go quickly. You can also find some nice outfits on Al Wasl road at a place called Ensemble. They are a Multi-label fashion boutique in Dubai catering to mostly Pakistani expats. Prices are reasonable as they are practically the same as in Pakistan. Alternately you could wear a Sari if you dont wont to speand too much on an outfit you may not wear again. You can then get the sari converted into a lovely western outfit later.

Khaadi boutique (i have been to festival city and outlet mall) have smart clothing but not for weddings. You can check in the jumeirah branch they might have some. As izzy said there are lots of shops in meena bazaar and also in deira. but meena bazaar is the best option.
