Went to Vox cinema at MOE on Friday, paid with visa as get a deal, well it wasn't such a good deal as payment came twice off card. The cashier swiped my card and seemed as if it hadn't gone through, no slip came out of machine, so he asked for my card back and re swiped it I then signed one payment authorisation slip. Lo and behold when I got home, 2 messages on phone from bank saying I'd 2 transactions from VOX, checked online bank statement and yes 2 payments so printed off evidence and heading there tomorrow. What's the betting on a) I get a refund b) how long I take me to get it. :\:

Well that was surprisingly easy! Went this morning, spoke to a very pleasant girl on the desk, explained the situation, she got her supervisor, equally pleasant and helpful, given the choice of giving bank details etc and they'd get it refunded or as we were about to go into the cinema to watch a film, she gave me the tickets free. Job done sorted all in less than 10 minutes, well done Vox Cinemas, but how come we can be so pleased and surprised when things are put right when this should be the norm and not the exception!

This happened to me at Atlantis once. I went back and showed them my bank statement and my original slip (only 1) and they happily refunded me.

I dont know exactlyhow it works but surely if they CANT provide evidence of the signed 1st transaction then they have debited money from your account without authorisation? You may not have a reciept but they also didnt have signed authorisation from you to deduct the money in the first place??? However this all sounds too logical for it to be correct hehe

It's like when you hire a car here when your car is in service - even just for a day! They take 2000 dh deposit but instead of blocking it as they do elsewhere , they take it and then it is 10 DAYS before you get it back. Sometimes you just can't fight the system here - antiquated in general. Which reminds me, I must check to see we got that 2000 refunded. And - the car was only 150 dhs!

that happened tp DH in Next, it went thro swipe machine twice (they said first attempt didnt work) and DH got two texts advising been charged twice. we went back to next and they said wait a few days so we did and by the time we got bank statement it was only showing once. dont worry if u have only signed once, there should not be a problem. good luck

We've had this happen before (twice i think) and very suprisingly it's been rectified both times without a fuss from us, despite it showing up in our online statment. A few days later the overcharged amount had been returned to our account. I'd just call and explain and hope the wind is blowing in the right direction!

This happened to me at Sandance, Atlantis last week. It was manic and the card reader was not responding so they swiped it again. I signed one slip and went on my way, only to find the next day it had gone through twice (an expensive round of drinks!!) Contacted the bank (ADCB) straight away, and submitted a dispute form and they are 'looking into it'. But the way I see it, unless they have 2 slips signed by me for two separate transactions then they have no right to take two amounts, and I know I only signed one so I should get it refunded.

The cinema should have a printout of all card transactions from the day so even if they don't have an individual slip for your extra transaction, they should still have evidence of it on this printout (I think).

Ooops what's happened to MaryCatherine's response? Here was my reply......There lies the problem, no slip from 1st attempt only the signed second one. Will try to get something sorted at the cinema before contacting the bank as it's my named card, but technically DH's visa account I just know the bank will want to deal with him and he can't be a**ed to deal with these sort of hassles, but I'm like a dog with a bone anD won't let go!
