Hi all

I need to buy a couple of outfits for my little brother-in-law's wedding but dont know where to look. Want something stylish but that wont break the bank, and preferably ready made as I have no idea about materials, designs etc!

All suggestions welcome!
TIA!

When something is by a well-known Pakistani designer e.g. at Studio 8 on Beach Road, you'll have to pay 1500+ for just a semi-formal outfit. Designer clothes in Pakistan have become very expensive past few years. :(

dont know if this helps somebody who would like to wear something for weddings here but sometimes you can also wear something light like the simple elegant stuff from fab india on beach road. accessorize with heavy jewelry.

Hi Shaf, Yeah, the guy in the shop said it was "designer". I dont really know how you tell the difference tho to be honest! It was a beautiful outfit but I was a bit surprised at the price as i didnt think there was that much embroidery on it. Well.. if u dont know the designer, it doesnt make much sense does it? :) If u hunt around, I am sure you can get a fab outfit for max AED 700.. and I mean really fab with all the bling and all. Look into the alleyways.. they have gorgeous stuff in terrible looking shops.

i saw some lovely dresses for 300-400. mine was 500 - it had a lot of beading and detail and weights a ton! the dress is so beautiful and i'll be able to wear it again without the trousers that came with it, so i thought that was ok value. i was taken by an indian friend - whatever the price tag said, it was halved and then a bit more off again - i was very glad she was with me!

What would you ladies say is a "Reasonable" price to pay for an outfit over here? The one I fell in love with (but was a bit over my budget) was a long frock-type with churidar (?sp); with a some embroidery around the bust area, and just a little going down the length of the dress. It wasnt all sparkley or glitzy, just quite elegant. I dont know what kind of material it was made from, its was just nice and soft! :) (not silk tho) Its original price was AED1700 and they had a sale on which brought it down to around AED1200. How does this sound price-wise for things from Meena? It was quite late by time we found the places with ready made so only looked in there and label 24, so didnt manage to make a proper comparison.

Awww, thanks Khatoon. Thats really kind of you! Thing is tho, I dont wear asian clothes all that often so never really know what designs / colours to go for so like to be able to try them on first. I dont need them til Oct so still plenty of time to go searching. Thank you so much for the offer tho! :)

Thanks all! Went to Meena Bazaar on friday night. Eventually found some shops with some gorgeous ready made clothes. In case anyone's not sure where to head for ready made things, we found the best shops were near to Sun City hotel and Dubai Nova hotel. One shop was called Glance and had some beautiful stuff - perfect for weddings and special occasions. some of the outfits were a bit pricey, but they had quite a good price range and have 25% off at the moment. We found Label 24 but wasnt particularly impressed. Seemed very high priced and not a huge collection. Havent bought my outfits yet but will definitely go back to get them at some point!

Went today to both-Mumbai Se and Khaadi in the Fest.City. Khaadi: for a rather simple embroidery, everyday kind of shalwars 200-300DHS, they are 100% cotton and overall nicely crafted, pretty colors. Worth the price IMO. Outfits for special occasions, weddings, etc.: absolutely STUNNING and luxurious, gorgeous colors and embroidery, pure silk, light as air, it was difficult to leave without one... These are more expensive, 1000+, but i had the impression that they aren`t expensive enough. I HAVE to have one for Eid! Mumbai Se: the style is totally different here, outfits aren`t meant to be worn on traditional gatherings, lots of short and tiny cocktail dresses, very glitzy and glamorous, and are twice as expensive as Khaadi: long party dresses 2500 or more. It's worth checking out even if you won`t shop there. HTH :)

There is a shop in Festival City called Mumbai Se - it's on the upper floor level, not far from the middle, but can't remember which direction. It has the most beautiful clothes in lovely colours and I've always thought it would be the place that Indian /Pakistani ladies would go to for a stunning outfit. Probably more pricey, but they always have a sale rail.

Khaadi is good. Panache? Adnan something? There is another one starting with B... can't recal the name. Pakistani ladies recommended to me Khaadi, they do nice outfits for special occasions, made of chiffon or silk-just what i need. There is a shop in Festival city, next to Nine West, I`m going to look for it sometime soon. Also, if you shop there during the sale, the prices are the same like in Pakistan, cheap.

Meena bazar is next to Al Ghubaiba Bus Station, Bur Dubai. If you take a cab, he'll drop you off right there, or you could take the bus to the Station. The bazaar is a massive place, so be ready to walk and bargain. Khaadi is good. Panache? Adnan something? There is another one starting with B... can't recal the name.

A friend of mine took me to a really nice shop that specializes in these, at Lulu Centre in Al Barsha. They also have nice shops for jewellery and handbags. If you want company or a woman's input, I could go with you. I've been meaning to get over there someday.

Thanks ladies. Will give those a try. Where exactly is Mena Bazaar? Also, has anyone been to Label 24 in Bur Dubai? Was just looking on their facebook page and like some of their designs, but guessing they might be quite pricey?? edited by LMAO-DXB on 12/08/2011

well meena bazaar is the place for them...see for the shops near jeweller's like damas and khushi...they have less priced clothing than the ones in other places for the same designs..few months back i had ti buy few outfits too but the ones which i liked were breaking the account in aed's :) so didn't bought any and got few from India only. they are too costly here..u might find few...just search the bazaar. or you can goto monsoon and see if you can mix and match anything?
