Hi all, i have been looking at getting a skywards credit card, as my husband and i travel abit. But i am not sure which one would be the best one to get. Also what are the requirements are to get each one. I have been to the banks and they tell me to fill out a form online and they will get back to me.... but they have not. Any info will help. Thanks

Do they still give the joining bonus miles? Most of the banks have cancelled this.

We have an Emirates NBD Visa Platinum card and it is better in terms of miles rewards than all the others below. We got a whacking joinging bonus of 75000 miles, then the rewards are 2 miles per US$ spent. BUT they also do a miles accelerator scheme. The annual fee on the card is AED 2000, but if you sign up to the Miles accellerator scheme they charge you AED 150 per month, which then repaces the annual fee on the card. Once you are part of the scheme, you can earn 50% extra miles a month on all your retail spending, eg if you were going to earn 8000 miles that month, but are a member of the accellerator scheme, you would earn 8000 plus 4000 accelerated miles. The cap on the accellerated miles is 4000 per month, but on the normal miles there is no cap at all, the more you spend the more you earn! We bought our car on this credit card and flew our whole family back to the UK with airmiles as a result! Em NBD also have really good customer service, weve not had any problems so far!

How much is the annual fee for the Gold and Platinum cards? Is there a monthly fee as well? On their site , for the Platinum plus it says 350 annually and 900 monthly? Isn't that way too expensive??? If I save the 900 aed a month in about 4 months I will buy myself a ticket to any European destination isn’t it? The annual fee for gold/gold plus is 300, The monthly fee is 400, ONLY if you do not pay the full amount. (EIB is sharia compliant, so does not charge interest) The only way to surpass this charge is by paying off the entire balance on the card. Perhaps there are other ladies who do this too? Does that mean that there is no finance charge or interest on your purchases? so the only fee per month is AED 400?

We recently the Emirates Islamic Bank card =) For the application my husband called them and a bank representative came to his work to take care of everything. I don't remember all the fees and stuff... But we will pay off the card balance in full each month to avoid the 400dhs charge. I can ask my husband later... He is fast asleep... I should be sleeping too!

Just looking at this myself, can I ask if you spend more than 5,000 is the cap still 4,000 miles or do the miles keep going up in line with your spend ? yes on Gold plus, that is the cap. I spent around 6000, on my card last month, but got only 4000 miles (which is a lot!) i also flew business class to mumbai recently, and the miles i got for that trip was only 2500, so i think in the long run, i would make earn more miles spending on my CC, than actually flying.

i received my citi bank credit card statement today and the fine print says they will "soon" revise the rate of mileage bonus and i should watch their website to learn "when will the new rule be introduced and what it will be" khmmm. so hold it back a bit, it may change and something tells me, not to the good direction, otherwise they would not be dodgy about it annual fee is 1000 aed on the platinum btw, and they do not ask you if you want to extend or not, just surprise-charge...

The best is EMIRATES ISLAMIC BANK, almost one mile per dhiram! You can either get gold/gold plus or Platinum/platinum plus. i get my annual fee waived off, because my employer pays it, but even if you do have to pay an annual fee, its worth it. for GOLD Spend AED 1200 or more every month to get 1200 Skyward miles Spend AED 2500or more every month to get 2000 Skyward miles Spend AED 5000 or more every month to get 4000 Skyward miles For PLATINUM Spend AED 4000 or more every month to get 4000 Skyward miles Spend AED 10000 or more every month to get 7000 Skyward miles Spend AED 16,000 or more every month to get 11,000 Skyward miles The catch with EIB is that if you do not pay the entire amount, then they charge you 400 dhs per month, so the best way (which i have done) is to connect the card to your bank ac, and they just take the entire credit card bakance, so youre never really in debt, just using the card as a convenience tool! I still only use the gold, but soon, im going to start paying my entire company's expenses too, so that way, i get more miles. hope this helps.
