The White company sale :(

While some of the DSF sales have been good, I found one very disappointing one.

I had been to The White Company before their sale and thought something was amiss and that the 'original' price seemed inflated. On closer inspection I found at least 6 items with the orginial price inflated by around 40% and then discounted by 50-70%.

Am tempted to report them - would you?

Even better, another good site is SHOPBOP.COM for all things designer; clothes, bags, shoes etc! They have FREE 3 day international shipping. You may get stung with import tax if goods exceed a certain amount, but if you work in a freezone you're exampt! Its fab

BY ONLINE - BUY ONLINE - BUY ONLINE Thats all I can say. I look around Dubai for what I want then go straight home and google US/UK prices, which of course is always cheaper and then order it to my shop and ship account with Aramex.. pronto! One satisfied shopper that didn't have to deal with Dubai's fantastic customer service. Does anyone know what the deal is when shops false advertise, and by this I am referring to a situation when I went into a shop and found shorts hanging on a Sale rack, yet they weren't part of the sale GRRRRRR was extremely frustrating. I fought til the death and eventually got them at the Sale/Advertised price. Lozzie, I completely agree with you. I buy online regularly and use aramex for fast reliable delivery. However with The White company you can get them to deliver direct from the UK and also save on the VAT! I ordered some pillows this way and they came within the week.

Hmm. Over the Christmas holidays in the US I stopped at Bed Bath & Beyond and bought two sets of queen size sheets, 600 count Egyptian cotton. Each set contained two sheets and two pillowcases. Cost: $99 USD per set (less than 400 AED each). I will never buy linens in Dubai.

JAWAD are the franchise here, suggest you write to them as well. I have had long chats with the staff in these shops over their sales and why no numptie in their organisation can work out putting the bedsets altogether in one shop rather than one pillow case in Wafi, duvet in MCC etc etc, drives me nuts and puts the consumer off buying. Their prices are always more than UK, and WC deliver internationally. Wafi has closed now as well BTW. Won't bother with Jawad, because it seems to be their policy! I noted one item at Sia too, similarly marked up and then down, but didn't get a picture so will leave that out.

[email protected] - just got that and will email them with pictures. I will try and copy the principal company in. In other things I had bought a dress from French connection last week for AED476 in sale. Reached home to find there was a hole in the dress that had been repaired! This wasn't sold as a seconds item. I was told they cannot offer a refund as its not their policy, I really didn't find anything else to my liking and demanded a refund. No luck. Someone spoke to manager he did the 'favour' of agreeing to a credit note. Stood my ground and politely explained that what transpired was cheating. The dress should have been sold as a 'seconds' item with the repair work being mentioned. I did make sure I mentioned the parent company and the consumer rights department may understand what I am trying to get across.... After that in minutes I had my refund processed. :) They are lucky to have excaped my wrath ;)

This sort of thing REALLY annoys me, and I hate how it gives The White Company a bad name when it's the local franchisee which should take full responsibility for such underhand tactics. I wonder whether The White Company back in the UK is aware of this. It's already bad enough that the majority of the staff employed in their shops over here have barely more than two brain cells to scratch together, but to indulge in highway robbery like this just turns my stomach. :(

Once you get results from your complaint, go one step further and demand the item be sold to you at the advertised discount!!

There are very strict rules for thise who participate in DSF and if it came to light that there was price fixing going on then there would be serious consequences so you need to report them. Not only for you but for all the other shoppers who they have been doing this to. The consumer helpline is great, I sent them an email and they replied to me within an hour to ask for my proof of purchase and then 10 minutes after that, the whole issue was resolved. They really take complaints seriously.

do complain. as part of DSF they have to agree to a whole lot of rules (look in shop windows and they have to have a framed 'certificate' which says they abide by them)

Call the DED Dubai Consumer Protection (Consumer Rights) For consumer complaints to Consumer Rights Section at Dubai Economic Department 600 54 5555 It has worked for me. I heard back from then within 2 days and they got right on it. give it a try.

I took pictures of the real original price and then the claimed original price and sale price. Hopefully, that should help. I wonder what the parent company would think of these practices... I think that is your best option - go to the head office and compain. Nobody here cares about the consumer but the companys actually do!

Yes, but I don't know where it'll get you. Aldo did the same last DSF - I really wanted a pair of boots I'd seen in there for 850dhs and I was over the moon when I saw the big yellow sale signs in there. I found the boots, started celebrating to myself then realised they'd marked them up to 1200dhs and then 'down' to 850dhs in the 'sale'. I emailed that consumer rights thing and never heard anything more. Grrr. Do it - the more people who complain the more likely they are to clamp down on it.
