I'm not bored with Dubai. I get lonely (and sad) because my best friends have left over the last 6 months. I know that's expat life, I've been through it many times before, but it seems to get harder as you get older. And Dubai is not a good place to make new friends.

the UAE has a lot more to offer than malls, brunches etc. Get out and do some exploring - there's always so much to do and see that doesn't cost money. Some of the best times we've had involve a shwarma on the beach, a samosa by the creek or an omlette paratha on a highway in the back of beyond - all under 5 AED! I think it has to do with whether you have kids and how old they are as well. I get tired of six months of summer heat when it is really no fun to be outside with toddlers. My kids start getting really grouchy in the summer being cooped up inside. It's not feasible for us to go away for 10 weeks during the summer so we end up staying here and while we can still swim for an hour or two a day, its just not fun.

No time to get bored in Dubai for me. No time for brunches either, in fact I only did one in 6 1/2 years at the Organic Cafe (very nice btw) when it cost 95dhs and we got buy one get one free !. Outdoor life for me, even in the summer. It does not cost much. Food and drink. I do not go out unless I can get a nice big discount if it is in a 5* hotel and hubby wants to have a drink otherwise there plenty nice places without a licence. Plenty of freebies around if one bothers to look around. That said accomodation and bills can be expensive I agree. I do miss the pubs in the UK so I am always happy to go back for a couple weeks in the summer and have the freshest fish and chips you can get. Life in the UK in not that cheap even outside London and for us there is nowhere to go but to a B & B or cheap hotel as there is no family left. The cultural stuff is quite good and museums are free so we make most of it when we pass through London. And of course China Town is still cheap and good !

I'm bored of it and have been for a really long time. Boredom passes, then comes frustration at the rising expenses and you can get more for your money somewhere else thinking sets in.... When I first came I was really shocked (and a bit disgusted!) about the thought of just eating/drinking in a hotel, I mean without staying in one, for me I dont think it will ever feel "normal" Personal safety is a concern for me and children though, everybody says everywhere else is way more dangerous.

although there are tons of brunches , hotels to visit etc etc .. i am feeling a but jaded of dubai ..i feel that unless you are here on a western package , surviving day to day is getting more and more expensive and running a business is costing more and more !!! food is expensive and eating out is also expensive !! thinking of returning to the usa may be alternative ..anyone else feels the same or is it just jaded me!! I usually get this way as the Summer approaches, hence the need to escape the heat. Once I have spent 2 weeks in the UK I am itching to come back to Dubai. I always have a good time there but only because I have plenty of money to spend and I am off work. Each time I go home the place looks grimmer and grimmer. I am much better off here and do more outdoor stuff than I ever did at home ( Due to cost and weather) I think a lot of people feel this way as the Summer arrives All the British people I know hate the UK. I think it's really sad. I don't, I quite like it (and Love it, if that makes sense). Equally travel broadens the mind. There is good here, there is bad there, there is interesting here. As per the UK really.

I think it's really sad. I come from a lovely small British city. The last time I went home all the little boutique shops had gone and Pound Land are in their place. We now have three. I went to the horse racing and saw three fights, also went to a little wine bar which I frequented in my twenties and there was a fight there. All the women seem to be pushing a pram with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth. My friends are all working but after paying their bills and petrol they have no expendable income at all. Perhaps it is just what I see but I find it expensive at home and unless I can find a job that doesn't tax me 40% then I cannot afford it. My council tax alone is 1200GBP I sat down with my friend and looked at how much she pays out in mortgage, bills etc ( this was before food/petrol/clothes/holidays) and they pay more than I do here Dubai is the best place for me however who knows that may change

Yes brunch is so overrated ..doesnt help that renewal of license cost 25k a year !! its seems hard for business people !! we are also fighting our eviction notice and landlord threatened to disconnect dewa !! if we lose we will leave asap ..if not we will stay for a few months more to close our affairs here .. our landlord apparently sold the building and bringing in new tenants for 25,000 aed more ( we are paying more 55,000 aed for one bed now ) we are from the usa so we are also planning our exit strategy and headed that way. In laws bought a house on the lake for 1 million dirhams - 4 bedrooms !!

If I have to go to another hotel or brunch, I think I might be ill! I'm really over it, would love to be able to go to a nice restaurant and have a glass of wine and not have to go to a hotel. We are trying to get an exit plan together for the next couple of years.

We are just thinking that USA is cheaper than it is out here .. A one bed is 1700 dollars which would comfortably get us a 3/4 bedroom house in North Carolina.
