We have to vacate our villa in the Meadows because landlord is selling (after just one month!). Considering moving to Cedre Villas in DSO because DH's company is moving there in Sep, and I can transfer kids from Gems WIS to Gems DSO. Love Meadows location though as it is close to many things and DSO is somewhat isolated. Need some advice opinions PLEASE! I have to act FAST!

Thanks Ladies. Two kids - WIS is on Shek Zayed opposite MOE. Arabian Ranches would be possible, however I hate the thought of driving up Umm Sequim past DAA and traffic lights everyday. DH even thought of Victory Heights - but although the villas are great, around it is like an ugly ghost town - and still have to drove Umm Sequim... DH doesn't mind the drive, just thought it might make his life easier?? I live in DSO and my DH DSO and my children are moving to the new DSO school from another GEMS school, I can not wait it will make life so much easier. I would do it without hestitation. edited by Betti on 06/07/2011 Lolacat-we are moving to Dubai in sept and have been told there are places in yr 2 & 4 for our children. Do you mind me asking what attracted you to the new GEMS school as not being out there, we havrn't even been to see it. edited by Betti on 06/07/2011

Ladies I REALLY appreciate your feedback, even my husband was impressed! We went to DSO today and found an awesome 5 brm villa which sits right on pools and parks for kids - literally. In fact, I can't believe this villa was still available it is in such a good location, fantastic view over DSO and Dubai. Great price too... it would probably be at least 50- 60k cheaper than the equivalent in Meadows for size and location - plus it is brand new! Called Gems Wellington DSO and they will take my two kids. So, I think we got out answer! We have until 12noon tomorrow to bring in our cheque! So here I come DSO neighbours!!! Let me know who has kids at Gems DSO - Year 2 and FS1 - would love to meet at the park so my kids can make some friends before school starts!!! They changed school/kindergarten in April and will have to do it again so nervous about them feeling at home.... Thanks again ladies - you are all adorable!

There's really a lot to be said for living close to both work and school - you'll have so much more family time and life would be a lot less stressful all round. I'm sure the new GEMS school will be on par with their other schools as they've been in the business for so many years and have plenty of experience of opening new schools. With Emirates Rd you are close to everywhere - Deira, airport, Trade Centre, Moe, Festival City. Traffic is always moving so you would not feel isolated at all.

i just moved to DSO and love it! It's quiet and peaceful and I also find it close to everything. No traffic, no noise, all major roads nearby. I really love it :)

If your kids are happy at WIS I'd leave them there and move to Arabian Ranches - it's a super easy run now the new flyovers have opened through Al Barsha - and your DH will have a super easy commute to work too - AR is such a lovely community to live in. We were in Jumeirah Islands before we moved to AR and I find AR far far more central - we see far more of Dubai from here turn left and you get new dubai - turn right and you get old dubai! Good luck with your plans.

If you want central, DSO is the place to be. 3 major supermarkets, 2 pharmacies, MMI, costa, several smaller supermarket and groceries, 3 salons, some new cafes and restaurants all within 5 mins. Al ain road and emirates road are both a minute away. If you like to drive slower like i do, academic city road will take you all way to midriff. MCC is 12 mins away, DFC is 15 mins, dubai mall is 12 mins, al wasl safa or jumeirah are less than 20 mins, Mercato 20 mins. The only places it is a bit of a drive from is MOE and new Dubai like marina and the rest of the emaar developments. If you like new Dubai and have to drive there often, i suggest you forget DSO.

Seriously think about the Ranches, but I'd keep the kids at WIS. As others have said, now the new bridges down to the ID centre. American School junction and straight down towards DC are open, you need never go down Um Suquim Road. I don't even use it to get from AR to MOE. It's a breeze. ssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........don't tell anyone......hahahaha.....

Thanks so much Ashleigh. I guess I need to visit some villas to get a feel what it is out there. no probs :) I suggest you go to the DSO office and ask to see the show homes, even if you don't rent directly through them, it beats going into empty hot villas when you can get an idea for the floor plan and flow in the cool AC with some furnishings :)

People think DSO is out in the middle of nowhere... LOL well it may be, but with the highways so good we are actually pretty central to everything and as previously mentioned, only 15mins to Dubai Mall. When I head to JBR from DSO, it literally takes 17mins to the Westin Hotel (yes, I time it most times), but from the Westin to JBR is another story - nearly the same time as it took to get to the Westin... bl00dy traffic! We love living at DSO! Absolutely love it!!

Just done the move, the villas are lovely, spinneys is in walking distance, 15 mins from Dxb mall, 15 mins from MCC, 25 mins from MOE. Am really pleased I've moved here and would recommend it especially since so much of your life is moving this way. Really nice place to live and LOVE how quiet it is, neighbors are friendly too :) Finishings of the villas here are fare nicer than the springs/meadows too.

Yes, I take the new rd past the barsha ID place, it is even quicker coming home cos there is the underpass in front of the school. I nearly cried with joy when the two bridges opened a few months ago.

Hi RebeccaS - do you hit traffic from AR to WIS? There seem to be so many traffic lights etc...or do you take Emirates Rd to the D611 and go through Al Barsha?

I agree that ranches may be a good option, it takes me less than 15 mins each way from here to WIS and am guessing it would be the same for your husband to DSO.

i work in DSO and loads of people commute from the Marina/Springs/JLT, it's really easy on both Emirates Road and Al Khail, traffic isn't bad at all.

I hope that the LL of your Meadows villa is compensating you well considering the disturbance and nuisance he is creating to your lives. He has no right to ask you to leave and if you went to RERA they would tell him this.

No, the GEMS DSO school has not opened and who knows what it will be like, whereas WIS is a sought after school for a lot of parents. Your DH should be able to get to DSO in 30 minutes with the new entrance onto Al Khail Road then Emirates Rd. I'm not too sure where WIS is but would Arabian Ranches be an option? edited by TwoKids on 03/07/2011
