The flight to Oman is ok, but we're driving it...t'is only 4 hours I think? Depending on time, traffic and wee stops ;) Oh, you're not crossing the road border through Eid are you? We drove once and it took nearly six hours. I recommend to fly if at all possible. that sounds right, himself chronically under estimates the time it takes to do everything...so if he says 4 hours, you can bet it's more like 6. He was doing a longhaul drive with lil miss in NZ last month, and she needed a wee. He said, oh theres a loo 10 minutes up the road....and she was like is that an actual 10 minutes Daddy? Or a Daddy 10 mins? They stopped on the side of the road :)

British school of muscat is great and you can move mid term if a place. no places all year groups, but hoping when we go for a recce we can talk to them. Have another school to look at, and a back up option, so HOPING that it doesnt become a mad drama.

I did miss it, thanks wikkid, and will def. email you. Currently looking like Lil miss will do a term at her current school here even if the job goes ahead, given how long things can take to get rolling, so now I'm worried about how unsettling that will be for her...get settled with new class/teacher, then shift and become the new girl mid year. Otherwise, we are looking forward to it. We have all enjoyed our trips to Muscat so the idea of living there is quite exciting. So now we just have to see what happens. Thanks everyone.

Hi aroha - am still kinda around (thanks to a lovely friend who sent me a heads up for your post) so thought I'd quickly drop in on the chat. Yep, I'm in Dubai during the week and muscat thurs, fri and sats. More than happy to answer your questions (if I can!!! No kids but friends in muscat are teachers). Drop me an email on wikkidcakes at gmail dot com - can arrange a coffee or something if you want?

It's been a long time since we were in Oman so can't help with schools but I'd move back there in a heartbeat. I have such fabulous memories of my childhood. Good luck!

Not sure, I can only suggest you cll them and ask. There are other schools but I know nothing about them. It was a good few years ago but that's what we did, we moved in October so DD did 1st term in UK then finished the year in BSM. We lived in an independent villa in an area called Al Ilam - on the border with what most expats call MQ. Our neighbours were all locals, but all very nice, much more open and hospitable than Emiratis I found. We didn't have a pool so we joined the leisure club in the Intercontinental Hotel. Muscat has moved on a lot since we were there so there will be a lot more to do than we when lived there.

what do you reckon SD? easy to get into? I'm concerned about start dates....she could do a term here and then transfer? Or do we perhaps delay her start by a couple of weeks and just start in muscat? If we do a term here, it's a long time commuting for himself. Did you live in an expat community? Villa? (and yep...the outdoor relaxed life style has it's appeal :)) Tarti! been wondering how you were getting along. Catch you soon? Sam7: what nothing, not settled yet. Relax girl...and wheres my house key? Got a cook book here with your name on it in exchange, lol! Mail you soon simples...have to fetch in supplies and fix a/c tomorrow.

Oman should be right up your street, plenty of outdoor activities and THE most beautiful scenery. DD went to BSM (British School of Muscat) which is Brit curriculum. I loved the school. And Muscat :)

Would be great to have some kind of farewell for you-- or you will just have to nip back for a party/playdate! I hope you can at least unwind with the Old Ha-- I mean ABC this week. (ABC you are not an old hag!)

got it dally, thanks. s'awright S&D, not 100% done yet, but it looks to be a go. Heading to Muscat this weekend coming for a recce, so it seems to be going ahead, dependant on the negotiations. He appears to be drip feeding me info in small doses, lol! Wine might help, think it's 5pm in Hong Kong or somewhere....

Wow, thats men for you! Good luck with your new adventure if it comes to fruition. You could also put out a shout for Wikkid, I think she is back and forwards between Dubai and Muscat and may be a helpful contact. I expect she won't be able to help about schools but may have other valuable bits of info for you.

lol simples! This is what happens when I leave himself to his own devices for a week. He's currently negociating the package (!!!???) thats how far along the process is. But, it still may not happen if the package agreement doesnt work out. Last thing I want to be doing is school hunting, grrrr. And you know what my house is like...the idea of packing that behemouth up makes me shudder. Luckily I'm still sleep deprived, jet lagged etc so it's all a bit of a novelty at the minute :) Had a quick lookie on the oman site...will also put out a message for desertrose, see if she has any ideas. All the girls are away? Catch up this week?

Really sorry to hear you're leaving - honestly, you don't have to go that far away to avoid me because I outstayed my welcome the night before you left, I can take a hint:) Welcome back, hope you had a great time, sorry can't help about Oman - have you looked at the EW Omani board?
