Hi other Moms

I was wondering if someone could help. I am looking for cheapish black out curtains for my DD nursery. I have tried Ikea and Home Centre (no luck) and i like Pottery Barn Kids but a little on the pricey side. Any ideas from you other Moms?

Thanks

Im a first time mum as well, and find I learn on the go. Its all very confusing. Im all sorted with my LO sleeping in his room daylight or not, but now he wont sleep in his pram even when its covered as he wants to know whats going on. But Im told that is just age. Give the bit of daylight a go. What have you got to loose?

HI, this might be a really stupid question, but wouldnt it be easier to get your baby used to sleeping when there is light in the room. We realised how hard it was to travel with a child that would only sleep in the dark after visiting scotland this year where its only dark from 11pm to 3am, when my little one was only 3months old. Its so hard to stay in someone elses house when your baby wants to play at 3am. So I started putting my son to sleep in dim room with his curtains drawn and stopped the black out blind by rolling it down less each day. He now would sleep in broad daylight if he had to. Its worth a try?

Apologies for dredging up an old thread. We have installed black out roller blinds and the top bit thereof are finished off nicely, so no need to cover that. There are, however, still light coming in through the sides and I was thinking of hanging 'dummy' curtains on either side of the blinds. I have 2 questions: 1) How do I hang those dummy curtains? I dont need an entire rod, do I use a tie-back (or two) and hang the curtain from there? 2) Where is the best place to look for baby curtain fabric, dragonmart? I never seem to find anything there :( Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

Hi mishmash, just re-read my post and realised I could have been a bit clearer! Ok, Ikea roll down blind goes on first. You then install a rod above the window and this is where your curtain is hung. I then stuck down the left and right side of the curtains to the metal part of the window edges (you could stick it to the wall). The rope from the Ikea blind must be hanging on the outside of the curtain that you have just stuck down in or for you to have easy access to the roll up and roll down function. With the Pottery Barn curtain taped down, the light coming into the room is minimised. Hope that helps?! Thanks a lot M! have understood it now :)

I was looking into this yeaterday...i have alot of IKEA curtains etc which are ok but not the best in quality also had ikea blackout blind but i find the roller systems in the blinds are cheap and dont last long.... Im gonna get blackout curtains for my new nursery from pottery barn kids, they do all the colours and the quality looked fab when i was looking at them yesterday. For curtains that are long and plain with a blackout are around 450 dhs the time u buy the blind and other curtains it wont be much cheaper.

Thanks for the info M! But having a dumb moment here: Ok so the Ikea Blind goes under and on top are the Pottery Barn curtains or are they also blinds? I mean If I need to tape the side of the curtain to the window frame then they would be like curtains, which gather to each side and can be tied..right? Double sided tape..what a great idea MI..would never have thought of that :) I have been struggling to block the light that creeps in from the sides and will do the same. Where can I get double sided tape? and could you please share the contact details of the company you mentioned. DH is useless with these things..and would be great to have someone come and fix the IKEA blinds. Hi mishmash - you can get heavy duty double sided tape from Ace Hardware - it's the 3M brand one. You might be able to find it in a major supermarket too. Al Basti's number is 04 329 5799. :)

I did exactly the same as Southern Star - white roll downs from Ikea and nice thick blinds from Pottery Barn. I also used double sided tape down the side of the window to stick the Pottery Barn blinds down which helped immensely. I made sure the cord for the roll downs was still accessible so now if I want light I pull up the Ikea roll down and draw back the blinds. We got a trade company called Al Basti to install the rolls downs and curtains for 50 dirhams. edited by M on 10/06/2011 Double sided tape..what a great idea MI..would never have thought of that :) I have been struggling to block the light that creeps in from the sides and will do the same. Ikea have black out roll down blinds. Cheap and can go under your normal curtains without altering them. I bought the pottery barn curtains without the blackout (loads cheaper) then put the blind from Ikea underneath works great looks good too. edited by starsouthern on 10/06/2011
