I found out last week that I am pregnant! Had a blood test to confirm, although the all day morning sickness is also a bit of a give away. :D

I have seen many recommendations for Dr's but a lot seem to have long waiting lists... I would prefer to see one Dr from start to finish. I would also prefer to give birth naturally, if possible. I have been advised to book a scan for 6 or 7 weeks, which would be after Eid.

Feeling quite lost and overwhelmed about the whole thing... also haven't told anyone yet apart from my DH as I want to wait till we've had a scan. We didn't plan any of this, although we're both really happy. Still trying to get my head round the fact that I'm pregnant, in between throwing up...

Thanks DubaiCat! Beebee32, congrats! Nice to know there are others who are due around the same time. Booked in for scan early next week. Very excited!! Don't want to sound like a winger, but this morning sickness really is something else. It lasts all day and I can't keep anything down aside from a little flat 7up... Very glad I don't work as I'm not sure how I would have managed. Just want to make sure I don't become dehydrated!

Thanks TDB. I had a bloodtest at the Dr's as I didn't believe the home pregnancy tests. :) According to the test I am five weeks along, but not sure as last period was August... Can they tell from a bloodtest how far along you are? I got the feeling, they used the date of my last period, added on period and then took conception date two weeks from that date. If that makes sense. I'm going to book first scan for after Eid at local clinic and will then move to City, I hope. One of the Obgyn's there gets very good feedback on EW and I look forward to meeting her. June does seem such a long way away! Will wait a little longer with starting thread, as I'd like confirmation of my due date first. As I understand it, hCG levels vary wildly from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy but there's a guide to estimate how many weeks you are depending on your levels (although there's a vast difference between the lower and upper levels too!). Do you know how long your cycles normally are and when you usually ovulate? That would give you a better idea of how far along you are before you have a scan.

Congratulations! I have just found out I am pregnant too probably the same amount of weeks as you. I would book an appointment at 8 weeks to confirm your due date. I went to see Dr Nataliya Petrova at The Cooper Clinic on Al Wasl because I wasn't sure how pregnant I was and it was too early to give any exact dates. She was really nice and helpful. It is very expensive to get all your pre-natal care there though so I am either looking at having a mix of seeing her plus a midwife to reduce the cost or I will go to a hospital for a package price (my insurance doesn't cover pregnancy). Good luck and let me know what / who you decide on and if they are good. Hope the sickness stops soon - try ginger tea.

When I was searching for a doctor last year I was told for a certain doctor the earliest appointments would be something like 5 months later....so november isn't too bad ; ) If you have insurance coverage up to a certain amount only, it might be a good idea to get a package for the prenatal visits and save your insurance coverage for the actual delivery, depending on how high your limit is A thing to consider is how quickly accessible the hospital of choice is from your home considering especially rush hour traffic

Hi! I don't know whether this helps, but I delivered at the American Hospital at the end of August, and I can't recommend them enough. I requested an induction at 39 weeks for various reasons, and have to say it was fabulous from start to finish. The midwives were fantastic, and nothing was too much trouble. I felt that they were knowledgeable and really listened whenever I had a concern or a question (which wasn't that often as they kept me well informed). I had Dr Braithwaite as my OBGYN, who was great, and I'd happily go back to her if/when I get pregnant again. Also we've got an amazing paediatrician, Dr Sridhar, also at the American, who has been so reassuring and understanding, so we feel in really safe hands. If you have any other questions, I'm happy to answer them.

Thanks for your advise. I know it's still early days, but it just seems like such a jungle out there! Checked with insurance and they cover pretty much any hospital up to a certain amount. Was just surprised when I phoned a couple of hospitals to make an appointment and was told earliest opening was towards end of November!!! Not sure I can wait that long... Maybe I should just book my first scan at the local medical centre and then by the time they have time at the other hospitals it should be 11/12 weeks. Have figured out that City, American and Welcare seem the best hospitals to go to. This is my first pregnancy (can you tell ;) ) and it is just a little overwhelming and the system here is quite different from back home.

Congratulations! Don't bother to have a scan until 8 weeks. This will only check for a heartbeat, anything before that is not really reliable and may be more anxiety provoking if there is no heartbeat yet. The real scan is around 11 - 13 weeks. Choosing your dr and hospital, should probably see what your insurance covers and take it from there. Loads of recommendations here and since you are so early in your pregnancy, you should not have a problem finding the person of your choice. Personal preference on hospital is either American or City Hospital. Unfortunately the community dr that I was seeing does not deliver at either of those hospitals, so I saw her until 28 weeks then switched to a dr that delivers at my choice of hospital. It would probably be better to see 1 dr from start to finish at the same hospital as the packages work out a bit cheaper that way. Good luck!
