Hi,
I recently gave birth at the new Al Zahra hospital and just wanted to post what a great experience I had. I know a few ladies have been asking about it recently as it is quite new. It was my second baby and I can say my labour and delivery went perfectly. The midwives were so supportive and caring and I don't think I was alone for one minute of my twelve hour labour. Doctor Yamini came to see me regularly throughout the day. When It came for me to deliver they talked me through the whole thing, he arrived in less than ten minutes. After delivery everything was so calm they gave us time to spend with the baby, the atmosphere was so nice. I thought the delivery suites and post delivery ward were all really nice, everything feels so fresh and new.Post delivery myself and baby were really well cared for and my discharge didn't take half the day. They do a follow up appointment with you one week later to make sure Mum is doing ok.

4 NICU beds seems like a very small amount to me?

Thanks for all the info on this. Littlelou - we are in a similar situation with our Doc. He said he can deliver at a few including Al Zahra but for some reason is REALLY pushing for us to use Al Garhoud Private. Personally, I hated Al Garhoud the minute i walked in - and it was very local, and they weren't very helpful (eg - they told us to come for the tour at 1pm and then we got there and they had no rooms to show us except the AED 8,0000 a night suite and wouldn't show us delivery suites). We have had a lady call us three times from there now trying to convince us to go back after the Dr called her. Starting to think our Dr is getting commission! I was so impressed with Zahra, and we live on the Palm so its literally 5 mins away. Just a much nicer feeling and it helps to know the head midwives are English too. I thought the facilities were and rooms were great and they were all so friendly.

Reading all of these positive reviews about Al Zahra is seriously making me re-consider City Hospital. I am not happy with the care I've been receiving and I really do not want to set myself up for further disappointment. After my appointment today with Dr. Elsa I'd decided to have my baby at Latifah but I did not know that they do not take patients past 20 weeks. Honestly I've stayed at City to this point because I paid for their antenatal package. I'm currently 40 weeks and I just want to have a positive birthing experience (whether its natural or a c-section). I'm no longer hung up on who the doctor is as they spend the least amount of time with you during your labor anyway. I'm more concerned about having positive reassurance and being surrounded by staff who truly have what's best for me and my baby as their priority.

Just wanted to add, been seeing Dr Yamini since my 6th week and as a first time mum I'm a bit lost and she had been so reassuring and is always available to answer questions, I've found they always call really quickly with test results. We only went there for our first appointment as it was the closest hospital at the time but decided to stay as the staff and facilities are so lovely. I just hope my delivery goes as smoothly as everything else has so far :)

Maxine13, thank you for posting this review! I also have decided to go with Dr Yamini and Al Zahra and this just reassures me even further. For the other ladies wondering about Al Zahra, Dr Yamini is lovely, well educated and not at all difficult to get an appointment with. Plus she is more than happy for the husband to be with you during labour (or up to 2 other companions). I questioned her re this the first time I met her. Plus when I went on the maternity ward tour the midwifes were strongly in support of natural birth.

Littlelou I was admitted a couple of times in Al Zahra prior to giving birth and I met the Doctor head of NICU on both occasions. They assured me they would have been able to care for my son if he had of been born prematurely. They made me feel like we were both in safe hands. I never had any problems getting an appointment with Dr Yamini phoning just a couple of days in advance as well and will always see you immediately if you feel something is wrong.

This is actually making me feel a hundred times more empowered right now. I shouldn't have to twist the arm of a doctor to agree to deliver us where we want (we have asked him a couple times about Al Zahra and he has always told us he is registered there and fine with delivering there ... only now to start putting doubts in our heads when we're in the third trimester). It just seems like he has suddenly has an agenda that does not jibe with the pro-natural way he was talking to us before. Thanks for your help and I'm now back to being totally on board with Al Zahra. Good luck with your pregnancy and congrats to both of you!

Thank you so much for this review! We have had our hearts set on delivering at Al Zahra due to a lot of factors, but number one being how pro-natural they are. We spoke with our OB/GYN about it this past week at our 28 week appointment and he started going on and on about how Al Zahra is cosmetically nice but the staff just aren't there yet and he is concerned about a lack of NICU facilities. We've had a problem-free pregnancy so far, so I wasn't really sure why he was pushing the NICU so much (although I'm aware that anything can happen at any time and we of course want our baby to be safe and provided for). We've now gone on a City tour and my husband and I felt so let down. Based on the comments the tour midwife was making and the answers to our questions, my husband and I both feel like we're going to have to go into battle to get our pro-natural birth plan executed the way we want at City. I'm not sure if it's worth pushing our doctor at this point or if we should try to switch to someone like Dr. Yamini for the third trimester and the delivery we want at Al Zahra. Is it difficult to get an appointment with Yamini do you know?

I loved the British midwives there my day in labour flew by chatting to them, they are really planning to make Al Zahra different from all the other hospitals in Dubai. The birthing pool will be fantastic when its up and running, there is only one in Ajman and its only been used once they told me. Dr Yamini is really in favour of natural and really allows the midwives to be hands on. I was in preterm labour from 28 weeks and list of other complications right till the end and never once were they rushing to csection me. I ended up delivering at just 39 weeks by following and having the best delivery. I was so happy after been really stressed thinking our baby would be born very premature. Best of luck with your pregnancies and I hope you's get on as well as I did.

Thanks for the post! I'm due in April and have decided to give birth there too. Glad to hear you had a good experience. We went for a tour of the maternity ward last week and found the midwives and other staff to be very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice too! I had my first visit with Dr Yamini a few days ago and found her to be pleasant and knowledgeable. So far so good! Congrats on the new little one
