I had a baby 4 months ago and since then I have noticed a change in the smell of my vaginal area. I am very particular when I wash and some days even a short time after I shower I can start to smell it. I am not sure if it is hormonal or if I have an infection(I just had my yearly pap and they did not mention anything) Will it ever be normal again? What can I do to help? I have read not to use feminine deoderent. Any advise would be great.
Thank you

I would definitely recommend seeing your gynae. It may well be a sign of an infection.....?possibly some fragments of membrane left in your uterus.

Did you have stitches? My SIL had a small piece of wadding from stopping the bleeding accidentally stitched in after having her baby and only discovered when an infection set in and started to smell. Best advice which has already been given is go see a doctor and get checked out.

Have your periods returned? Do you use tampons? True story - a friend of mine had a strange smell from that area and it turned out she had an old tampon stuck in the upper part of her vag**a. It could have been very dangerous too

Call your OBGYN and ask. They are used to these sorts of questions and will be the best person to address your concerns. Take care x

Go to a Doctor, drink a half glass of cranberry every morning too which wards off yeast infections etc. could be something you are eating that is affecting you, anything too citrus etc can affect the nether regions.

It could just be that now you've had a baby your lady bits have changed and you've yet to become accustomed to the change in your body. It may sound daft but I do think once you've had a baby a lot of a persons bits become more womanly rather than girly.

I also suggest going to the doctor to check for infection but in the meantime don't over wash, this in itself can cause a problem as you can wash away the healthy bacteria that your body needs. Seems silly I know but I saw it on an 'Embarrassing Bodies' programme and not washing so much really helped...

Your yearly Pap is just for detecting abnormal cells, not for infections. It would be best to address this specific issue with your dr so that she can take a swab/sample from you to be cultured - it usually takes 3 days. You will then be able to be treated with the appropriate medicine. Another option is Betadine douche. Personsoally, I'd see the dr first then use the Betadine douche in addition to whatever is prescribed. Hope you sort it out soon.
