Ladies,

I just wanted to know if any of you feel like I do .... Which is that even though there are so many different play areas for kids here in Dubai, don't they all seem such a disappointment?

I find them all to be grossly dirty, with broken old toys, no organisation or structure, no staff actually monitoring the kids, outrageously expensive and so on ....

The only ones I think are good in certain aspects are mygym and apple seeds. Are there any which I am missing?

Have other mums out there visited many such as mini monsters, favourite things after hearing all the hype and been thoroughly disappointed? What else do you all do with your LO's? My DD is 11 months old and supremely active and loves to be on the move and doing something every minute she is awake. Any ideas?

I thought that Mygym offered classes only? As you I was too disappointed in highly advertised/recommended places like FT and MM. So far I like to go with kids to play areas in Oasis Centre, Lamcy Plaza and Mercato. I wish they would have toys for kids in Magic Planet area in MCC, then it would be just perfect.

We used to go to Fun City in Ibn Battuta and DS loved it. Occasioanlly we would get older boys in there but the staff would warn us and ask if we still wanted to go in which we did as I would just tell them to be careful. DS loved the baby area of fun city there but didn't like the Oasis Centre one which had lots of toys but only a small baby area. I have heard that Extreme fun is a nice place to go to. Now my boy is 2 we go to Playnation in MCC which is nice but he always manages to bang himself on the wooden slide and I don't like the fact that the floor isn't padded. I agree about the germs bit, the state of some of these places does make you cringe but honestly when I was little and living in the country the amount of disgusting things I touched and the germs I caught just made me into a healthy individual. I know you want your baby to be safe but she does need these germs to build up an immune system, if you see her chewing on a ball with a dried bogey on it just take it out of her mouth lol!!! What a horrid thought :) Cleaning her hands before and after she goes in with some antibacterial wipes will help a little.

zebra crossing has a nice area of little ones although when I was there last time there were a few mad 5-7 year olds running about jumping everywhere.... But they should all be back to school next week! :-D Extreme fun in Motor City has a lovely sectioned off area for under 3 and the bigger kids cannot get in.

I think Mini Monsters is a complete fire hazard. When I was there last, there were probably about 100 children running around. There was a school with thirty toddlers, plus another group of some sort and then all the people that just came in. It was hard to hear other grown ups speaking and keeping track of my small children was a complete nightmare. The kitchen was very busy and all I could think about is what happens if a fire starts in the kitchen ... there was one fire escape from the maze and I couldn't see any sprinklers above the maze area. The back door was locked. The only staff that were there were manning the cash register and the kitchen - no one was managing how many kids came and went - not even who was paying or not. After two hours, the fire escape was hanging open and some child could have crawled out and gone onto the street without anyone noticing. It was a complete zoo and I won't take my kids back there.

Thanks for replying - which one is your favourite? When I said the staff don't monitor the kids .... I meant that they don't monitor if bigger kids enter into the younger section which I find unsafe. My 11 month old is in a ball pit with 6 yr old boys diving in top of her ..... Literally!!! And the sign says 0-3 yrs ..... :) I like the MM and the one at DFC. Never been to my gym or apple seeds as it's far too expensive for my pockets. lol. regarding those 6 yos, hhmm.. tell them off. or tell the staff say. i did that . lol

Like you, I have brought DD to a lot of play areas and truthfully I have been very happy with it. As long as DD is happy playing, I am happy. I have never been dependent on any one else taking care of DD whilst there because it's only a play area. I didn't mind DD playing with a lil dirt as it will definitely make her immune system stronger. You can always give it a good wipe/clean after her play. Just what I think. Apologies if that's not what you wish to hear. But DD is now 2 and is in perfect health, touch wood.
