Routine - or not routine?

Hi girls,

A bit of a silly question but...

I am trying to get my baby into a routine of doing things at a certain time which is finally starting to pay off. But I am going to the UK in November staying there until New Year. So the issue is time difference... For instance, if I continue with UAE's timings, in the UK I will be bathing him at 2pm and he sleep until about 9pm: meaning that he will be asleep for most of the afternoon and awake overnight.

From your experiences, how easy/difficult would be to get him used to a different time zone? And, of course, we have to consider that he will be back in the UAE in January so the issues happens again?

Any advice as what you have done when you went abroad for a long-ish period of time?

TIA

I flew back to the Uk a few weeks ago with my 9m old. He was easy to get onto the Uk time, i gave him an extra bottle late afternoon (would have been his bed bottle) then let him have a small nap, played and then a nice soak in the bath, he woke me at a good uk time too (thought he'd have me up at 2 as he normally gets me up at 5) You will have 4HR difference but im sure it won't make too much difference, just take it as it comes.

easy peasy - stick with the clock. The only trouble comes if/when your child/ren works on sunlight - Dubai is pretty predictable and handy on the 7h-19h routine, but it's a bit more of a challenge in the UK when sunrise is at 4h30 and sundown at 22h30... saying that, in winter, I reckon I can get away with more lie-ins and early bed-times!

How old is your LO? We've been back to the UK about ten times (or more) since DS was born and each time he's been absolutely fine, whether he was 11 weeks old or 15 months. We get him straight onto UK time as soon as we're there, and just tweak his nap times if we need to.

switch to fit the time zone, it will mean waking him sometimes so he doesn't sleep at the wrong time.
