Oh Pingu, I hope you get your insurance sorted - that is the last thing you need to be stressing about! I am soooo excited - we were 34 weeks on Saturday - so getting super close! I am into week two of having finished work, DS started nursery (3 mornings a week) this week, and is loving it. I really need to sort out baby clothes, and pull the moses basket, car seat etc out of storage, but I am lacking motivation, and seem to be busy with other things all the time! DH told me I need to pack my hospital bag on Sunday morning (given if we deliver at the same time as DS, we will have a new baby in less than two weeks - eeek!) he told me to ensure that I had a stash of red bull in there for him to get him through the labour - what???? It was hilarious, DS only took about 4 hours - so it wasn't hugely taxing on him! My morning (aka all day) sickness is still causing issues, and for the last 6 weeks I have basically been putting on a kg a week - yikes! I had visions of not putting on the 30kg I put on last pregnancy, but at this rate, I am going to get close .. I guess some of us just carry heavily :( But I refuse to worry about it, I lost it all in the 3-4 months after DS, so whilst I am sure it will take longer with number two - I know what I need to do! How is everyone else???

oh dear , how bothersome to be changing insurances right now, Pingu! All the best to you and I know you are feel because my DH's and DS's insurance was not going to be covered by my work any more starting this year but after much negotiation (in other words begging) they have agreed to keep them on - thank goodness! This means that Lil Peanut coming in march will be covered too once they arrive and that is a great relief.

30 weeks today! So excited :) :) Starting to get all swollen now my rings haven't fitted for ages and now my watch almost doesn't, feet sore and toes look like sausages lol Otherwise all good on that front! Having major issues with insurance hubby is changing jobs and we just found out that the new company doesn't cover maternity! Trying to stay on the old one just for the birth so please hold thumbs it all goes through! Was so freaking but there is nothing I can do now except hope for the best! Plus we need new visa's on new company and it's all going to happen when baby comes oh yes and plus we moving! So going to be a very very busy few months ahead! Hope everyone else is doing well :)

Wow! I can't believe it is getting so close! It sounds like everyone is getting things sorted and arranged - it is so exciting! We are 33 weeks this Saturday, my OBGYN told me my varicose veins / swelling (at about 28 weeks) was like I am 37 weeks - so they are a little tender - and very swollen! My morning sickness has returned with a vengance in the last 2 weeks - originally I thought it was motion sickness from a car drive, but given its regularity and not coinciding with any car outings it is clearly the dreaded morning sickness. I have to say I can't complain, I had it very, very badly last pregnancy, so I am pleased that I actually had a couple of months without it this time! Plus I have just finished working (yay), so don't have that to worry about. I have completely taken advantage of all the sales over the last week, and I think I nearly brought the 1st 2 years of baby clothes for this little tyke! I get annoyed paying inflated full prices, so tend to stock up in advance. Our first child was a boy, and this time we are having a girl, so she is largely needing a full new set of clothes. Other than clothes, we have everything from first time around, so I just need to pull it all out of storage. Super excited! I seriously can't believe it is coming up so quickly! They will be here before we know it!!

hahaha - we will all have to wear something distinct so we know who is who and can say hi - like I'll be the one wearing the pink carnation on my dressing gown (or something like that!).

Hiya ladies, Redleaf & coconnell, I've just heard a rumour (from a very well placed source) that American Hospital might be losing staff in February... Will keep you posted if I hear anything more on this cause it could very well be a deal breaker! Fi x Oh dear! Thanks for the possible heads up. This could indeed be a dealbreaker. In fact, another reason I was considering City was because Dr. George and Dr. Christian had left (they were my back-up drs!). I didn't like the fact that dr. were switching to City (however, I do realize that part of that is because if you worked at AH and left, then you were no longer allowed to deliver/operate there--dumb, I know). Please keep us posted! Many thanks!

Hi just_anu, sorry I can't help you with Fujeirah but welcome :) Aussiepup, I'm due 3 April :) What Dr are you with I'm with Dr Elsa at City will have a c-section though so will be a bit earlier. Let me know how you go in case we are in at the same time:) You in SA ooohhhh would so love to be back home now as that's where I am from. Sorry to hear you are not well, hope you get better soon! I feel enornous too was this size with DD at 36 weeks when I delivered her, very uncomfy already!! Hi Pingu I'm with Dr Elsa too :) might catch ya in the hospital :) still sick too - back from SA this morning and i have ear infections in both ears, needless to say the descent was not nice at all :( i thought the bronchitis was clearing up and didn't really feel any discomfort in my head... but not to be. Went to dr today and he has given me ear drops, nose spray and more antibiotics. I can hardly hear out my right ear ... he said he hadn't seen ears this bad in a long time and lucky that my right didn't burst on the plane. :( Eughhhhh! blah. Hope everyone else is ok. I have my glucose test tomorrow - was meant to go this morning but we only got in at 3am and I so couldnt be bothered driving there this morning when I got up.

Hi Fiona and Redleaf! Thanks for posting your thoughts and experiences. I think that you both hit the issue on the head when you mention that the experiences at the different hospitals fluctuate! It's like with many things in Dubai, when something is really good, people flock to it and therefore, the quality of care may go down simply because the hospital is not equipped to deal with it at that time. I have gone through the old threads, but the reality is that things can change so much over the course of a few months, so it is so helpful to hear recent experiences. Fiona, as for arranging the tour at City, I would definitely call them in advance. My husband and I showed up unannounced and the staff were really not warm or interested in providing any information. I will admit that the Labor and Delivery ward was fully booked and you could tell they were very, very busy--so I do understand. At the same time, I wanted to know what happened in times like this? I know City is very popular so, I don't want to worry about their being no room for me should I arrive! I am strongly leaning toward American, however that could all change in a few weeks. I know that the "third trimester crazies" may kick in and prompt me to change my mind! :) My last pregnancy, I was moments away from booking a flight home at 37 weeks so I could deliver there! As for Dr. Sant, I have heard wonderful things about her, so no matter where you go, you will be in great hands! I guess in many ways you could look at it as a win-win situation--both City and American are very good.

Morning ladies, redleaf, aw isn't Dr. Sant great?! So caring and approachable (especially compared to my previous doctor who shall remain nameless)! Thanks for your feedback on City & American, I guess we'll just have to go along to each and see which one is a better fit for us. Fi x

Hi ladies Fiona82, I am also with Dr. Sant! I have decided to go with City this time around. A few friends have delivered there recently and were very happy - particularly as one or two had to use the NICU and they couldn't say more postive things about the staff there. I was also in City for my ectopic and had very good care. My son was born at American 4 years ago (I was with Dr Josza there) and was also very happy there too, but I have heard that the nursing care has gone a bit downhill since then. But I guess these are all individual opinions. Everyone has different experiences. My friend had both her babies delivered by Dr Raj at American and loves her!

Hi coconnell, Hmm sounds like you've got the right idea of sticking with Dr Raj for the delivery, especially if you had such a wonderful experience last time. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! We've not actually been for a tour of either hospital yet, think that we'll do it next weekend though. Do you just have to call up on the day and ask if they're free to show you around? Don't want to just turn up unannounced and get turned away. I'm with Dr Rosalie Sant who thankfully delivers at both American & City. I asked her if she could recommend one over the other but she says that they're basically on par at the mo, City used to be too busy but has sharpened up their act recently. One of my friends gave birth at American and was really happy with the level of care overall but was not at all impressed by the guy who did the post-natal checkups (she said that he seemed overly rough with the baby...but maybe she was just being a tad over-protective of her little bundle of joy). But on the other hand, she said that the lactation consultant is excellent and has heard not so great things about the lactation consultant at City. Oh well, hopefully we'll get a gut feeling when we go to visit the hospitals next weekend...otherwise it's gonna have to be eenie meanie miney mo! Fi x

Happy new year to all March mamas, Aussiepup, hope you're feeling better now. Redleaf, my husband and I did the same thing with a highlighter and a baby book and couldn't agree on any names...but then ended up finding 'the one' in the credits roll of a programme on the Discovery Channel....so don't worry, am sure you'll get your inspiration when you least expect it! Ayda247, yep my colleagues are also trying to freak me out about the impending birth, very annoying! When are you working till? I'm gonna try to finish up on 16th Feb, a measly 3 weeks before my due date but the commute from Dubai to Abu Dhabi is getting more and more exhausting as the weeks go by so I guess I'll just play it by ear. Aw ladies, how amazing are those 3D scans?! We had one at 28wks and it was so great being able to see a chubby little baby smiling, opening her eyes and chewing on one of her feet! Am finally starting to think about where to give birth but can't decide between City or American as I've heard good and bad things about both. Any thoughts ladies? Fi x Hi Ladies! I hope that everyone is feeling well!!! Fiona82, I am having the same debate as you! I am so torn between City and American. I gave birth at American with Dr. Raj and had a wonderful experience there!!!! So, why would I switch to City? The American Hospital Clinic (where you go for your visits) drives me absolutely insane! I love Dr. Raj, but she is so busy that I feel very little quality time with her when I am there. So, my back-up doctor when I was pregnant with my first was Dr. Christian Josza. So, I have decided to switch to him. However, he is now in Healthbay and delivers at City. I love his clinic and he is great, but I went to City for a tour and did not have the same great "feel" as I had at American. So, I think I will see Dr. Christian for my prenatal care, and go with Dr. Raj for the delivery... But, still I am so so torn... What are your considerations? Is there one you prefer? Does your doctor deliver at both? What good and bad things have you heard? I'd be curious if other ladies have similar experiences? City or American? That is the question... :)

Ayda247, aww you poor thing, that's rubbish having to work until a week before D-day and then getting a measly maternity leave entitlement! :( Hope your colleagues cut you a lot of slack during those last few weeks at work! I guess I should consider myself lucky to be working for a UK company that is giving me 29 weeks of maternity leave. Am still dreading taking bubs to nursery at the tender age of 6 months...but I suppose that's gonna be an emotional time for any mummy, regardless of how old the wee one is! Hope you all have a lovely weekend...and enjoy hitting the DSF baby clothes sales! Fi x

Fiona82, you are lucky to be leaving work a whole 3 weeks before your due-date! :) I am planning on working until one week before D-day because the maternity leave we get is only 45 calendar days..will be adding on my annual leave plus one month unpaid just to spend some decent time with bubs! Hope i can last until march!

Anu, the Fujairah Maternity Hospital will only take a vbac if you have had a vaginal birth *since* the c-section. Otherwise, Dr Ashmi and Dr Chandra at GMC have been recommended to me as being the best doctors to help you with a vbac (but you may need to be *very clear* in your wishes!). (They also practise at the govt hospital, so may move you across there if appropriate.)

Thanks BFC :) I only breastfed my first child for 2 weeks, she was 4 weeks premature and the paediatrician just told me it wasn't working as I had hardly any milk so to start on formula :( I really want to try this time around but have no clue actually so this will certainly come in handy! Thanks again

Congratulations lovely mamas! Anu, I gave birth at Fuj Maternity Hospital, where Katie used to work, but at that time at least they cld not take vbacs as they have no theater facilities incase a repeat c-section became necessary :( I've just asked a friend there if for more info, but K will be able to help too I'm sure. Wld you like me to ask around for other mums' experiences? Don't know how old your other child(ren) is/are; do you go to the toddler group? Mums there might help. Also, just wanted to let you all know that Breastfeeding Q&A is running an ante-natal breastfeeding workshop in Dubai on 14th Jan (mums & dads both welcome). For more info check out Facebook Breastfeeding Q&A UAE or drop me a line on sian.breastfeedingqa at gmail.com xx edited by BFC on 04/01/2012
