Well, my favourite for LO is 'Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose' (by the authors of the Gruffalo) but she loves anything 'In the Night Garden'! She occasionally sits through Peepo (Allberg) and because she really does love him 'My Brother' by Anthony Browne.

i know my baby loves "good night moon," and "green eggs and ham", i think for the simple bright colors... but i just bought her this book called "blueberry girl" and it is just so wonderful, beautiful, and uplifting, so great for parents (mom and dad) to read to their daughters... also same with "where ever you are my love will find you" and a majority of nancy tillman books, just soo beautiful!

Very young babies love rhyming and repitition. There are loads of books in boardbook format that you could be reading to your baby. Go to Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall, they have a great selection. Have a look at Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You, Slinky Malinki, The Runaway Bunny et al. By the way, your baby won't care if you're talking gibberish to him, he just loves the soothing sound of your voice but I firmly believe that babies are never too young to be read to! Have fun. Hear! Hear! Big, bright, simple pictures; sing-songy words and Mummy's voice are all they need. For that matter, you could read the newspaper to a 6 month old and they'd love every minute of it. It's your voice and cuddle they need. :D

What age? DS is six months - at bedtime i have noticed if i keep talking to him in hushed voices he starts to feel drowsy and it's easier to put him down. For now i keep talking gibberish as i don't know if he would really understand a story. I can't keep up with the same so thought would start telling him a story so that atleast I don't feel that I sound like weird.
