Please please please get this sorted asap.
I went through skin cancer when I was pregnant with DD. I had a wart / mole on my head for years and it kept crusting over....eventually my brother convinced me to go and see a doctor and 5 days later I was in surgery. they acted quickly becausee if it had fused to my skull then I would have needed very different surgery!
Anyway, I now have a permanent crater in my head about the size of a gold ball in diameter and it is also a permanent bald spot so please please don't wait any longer and get it sorted.
Also, there are different types of skin cancer ranging from Basal Cell Carcinomas to more serious types where further treamtent is needed so PLEASE see someone. There is an excellent skin doctor at Welcare Hospital in Garhoud but I can't remember his name
My sister was recently diagnosed with a malignant melanoma and has had extensive treatment. You must take what this doctor says seriously please, please, please.
They won't cut your face for nothing. They will do a small biopsy and then evaluate it to see whether you need further treatment. If you do, a cancer specialist and a plastic surgeon will ensure minimal scarring.
For the sake of your family, don't delay this.
Very best of luck and please make that phone call today. There's a very good chance it won't be skin cancer and if it is you need it sorting.

Being Australian and having had my mother, father and Uncle at some point all have some form of skin cancer I say do not hesitate. Hesitation in this instance could be sadly a death sentence. You cant take any risks with skin cancers.
My mother was around 40 when the first cancers appeared on her face. She went to the same skin-specialist as Sir.Don Bradman and he was riddled with them. I will be 39 soon and check carefully every single spot that appears. I know the heartache that my mum went through every time she would go for a check up or a crusty, red mark would appear. My Uncle had one cut out of his shoulder and my father one from his leg. They can appear anywhere.
My great-great, great grandparents were of course from Wales and other parts of the UK. I shudder every time I see people here on holiday or expats sunbaking or just on the beach not covered up. In the not to near future I'm sure there will be a skin cancer epidemic. I have never ever sunbaked but loved to snow ski when I was younger which can be just as bad.
I recently asked a friend who had cancers sizzled off her face here for her Dr, and she recommends Dr Juliane at the Health Bay Clinic on Al Wasl Rd, her number is 043487140.
Good luck I wish you all the best, I hope it is not cancerous, but if it is at least you can do something now before it becomes worse.
Please everyone, cover up, that's my only piece of advice.
I went through this last year. The doc at Dermacare told me there was nothing to worry about but I had it double checked at home and ended up having a skin graft. It really is best to get a biopsy ASAP. Don't be scared. They do a great job and you will not see the scar. I would recommend Dr. Khan for the biopsy.
I don't want to alarm you but it sounds very much like my Mum. She had a small mark by her nose and it would often crust over - only small and I kept on at her to get it checked. She left it for quite a while - she said it didn't hurt and it was only a little dry patch that from time to time scabbed over. She did eventually go to see her GP in the UK and he referred her to a dermatologist who did a biopsy and it was skin cancer. she ended up having an operation to remove the tissue and they did an amazing job with a plastic surgeon to cover it up - there's no way you can even see where the surgery took place. So......it might be nothing but you are absolutely right to get it checked out by someone else and I would do it sooner rather than later. I really like Dr Nasir at Dermacare and he trained in the UK with some of the best dermatologists - I know he's been very ill so not sure he is back in the clinic yet but if not someone else is bound to come on and recommend a good dermatologist. Dr Khan is a great surgeon - if I had to have a biopsy on my face I'd probably get him to do it. He removed some suspect moles from my DH and the scars are almost non existent from his very very neat stitching.
I would also get myself an appointment with an oncologist - there's a really good cancer specialist clinic in Abu Dhabi and I believe that the American hospital has a good oncology department. Hope that helps you.
Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
Hi Becky,
I would definitely go for a second opinion. Why don't you try Dr Rolf at the American Hospital? My Dh had a scare with regards to moles when we first arrived in Dubai. He went to see a dermatologist at Dermacare and he was told that he had to have 6 to 10 moles removed! The doctor was very alarmist and was showing us a pile of other patients files who had done the same and ended up having skin cancer. I was quite shocked by his approach.
My Dh then saw Dr Rolf (and another dermatologist back home) and they both said that it was not necessary to remove any moles. He gets checked every year and touch wood all is well and no moles removed.
You may end up having to remove your birth mark but I say go for a second opinion and I hope it is nothing to worry about.
Becky - I feel with you and highly suggest you try to see Dr. Khaled El-Hoshy who is currently visiting The Dental Spa - he leaves tomorrow and is an expert in all matters regarding dermatology and held a Cancer Screening On Saturday. Hurry and Good Luck!
Hi Becky, I understand your reservations. But if a doctor has told you they want to do a biopsy and thought it was serious enough to do it there and then, I wouldn't have waited. Better to be safe than sorry. I don't know anyone that specializes, I've always been like you and gone to my doctor and gone on their recommendations.
I'm not sure if it's an insurance thing, but I totally get where you're coming from with regards to the number of problems people have - I've never seen or experienced anything like it either.
Hi All,
I have had a birth mark on face obviously since birth ! it was red when I was younger but faded to nearly non-existance through the years, I'm now 45 but for the past couple of years its been scabbing over and as it does not hurt, I forget its there and often wipe the flannel over it and off we go again. As it drives my husband nuts that I often have a scab on my face I decided to see a dermatologist today and as it was a birth mark was not prepared for his diagnosis that he thinks its now turned into skin cancer and he wanted to do a biopsy there and then, I could not go through with it as I was so shocked. Question is and I don't know if any of you have experienced the same but I have had so many medical scares since living here, breast cancer, growths in my womb that require ultrascans/MRI's that I am becoming sceptical how much of this is insurance, for sure I do not want to get my face cut up for nothing....so I am thinking a skin cancer specialist is my next step ? so any recommendations please ?
