I was in Jordan this January and a couple of Januaries ago. Great weather for Petra but rain in Amman and chilly weather in Aqaba and at the Dead Sea. Too cold to go into the sea basically but very sunny and pleasant otherwise. I agree with "unpredictable"!

i went over national day last year - so around december 2nd. it was cold at night, actually chilly. in the daytime i found it too cold to be in a bikini when at the beach. however this was just right when it came to visiting petra, you don't want it to be too hot when you're walking around.

I was in Jordan a few years ago for Xmas and New Year and had a very lovely weather! We spent a few days in Petra which was amazing, then headed to Aqaba to enjoy lovely beaches. From Aqaba we drove to Dead Sea and spent a few days there, swam in Dead Sea and did lot's of sightseeing too. The weather was a bit unpredictable though which we didn't mind. When it was colder, we did sightseeing, when the weather became hot we just enjoyed beaches and Dead Sea. Happy holidays!

Other places you could vsiist in India other than Goa are the Golden triangle Delhi - Agra-Jaipur which is great weather in January. Also the backwaters of Kerala would be great. We recently stayed at the Park Hyatt in south Goa - very beautiful property. Seychelles & Mauritius are options as well.

Maldives is four hours away and would be perfect. Goa would be nice too...we go to Benaulim in South Goa, which is a lovely quiet place (well it was 10 years ago and I can let you know in November what it's like now!). I can recommend Ritz Carlton in Sharm El Sheikh if you want Eygypt. or if you're looking for somewhere more 'backpacky' then Dahab is great (Red Sea Relax Resort would be a recommendation). Happy holidays!

*Brrrrrrrr* I was there a few years back over Xmas and it rained alot and snowed a tiny bit too. This is in Amman which is high up. Petra was freezing at the time, still doable but very cold and windy. The hot springs were lovely to visit then. I think the Dead Sea would be a bit warmer. You are looking at temps around 10 during the day and about 2 or 3 at night.
