Hey ladies, I need a yellow fever vaccine for travel to Kenya. Been on the phone all morning with no success. Has anyone had this done (recently) as apparently places that stock the vaccine change every 5 minutes due to it's short shelf life.

I've tried, Al Maktoum Hospital, Rashidya Hosptal, Cooper clinic, Jebal Ali Hospital, Rashid Hospital, Dubai London Clinic. wellcare knowledge village, al mankool hospital and a few others that my mashed up brain can't remember anymore this morning.

Anyone who has found a place within the last few weeks would be a great help. Thx.

Couple years back when I lived in Al Ain, I used to get malaria tablets (Lariam) free of charge from Al Ain Preventive Medicine Department. All I had to do was turn up at the Malaria dept., tell them where I am going and the duration of my stay and voila, I get the tablets. yes that is still the case, in the preventive medicine at skmc (AD) they will give you larim/mequofline free of charge, but because of my sons medical issues he cannot take that type of anti malaria it has to be malarone and according to my doc here he has told me to stay away from lariam. <em>edited by busybee2 on 02/11/2011</em>

Thanks for the link bb. DH was told to have his Yellow Fever at least 10 days before travel. And now his trip looks unlikely to happen (so glad we only paid AED 20!) thats nothing then i would have been miffed if you had added another digit to it.

Hi My husband just got a Yellow Fever vaccination for his recent trip to Rwanda. Apparently only available in one Government Travel Clinic here in Dubai. I will find out what it was called and let you know.

He's been told you need to get it done at least a week before flying. a lot of vaccines need to be done weeks beforehand. my boy had typhoid and hep a this time 4 weeks beforehand.

Thanks for the warning, that is what they told him to get *goes to read leaflet* yeh but some people do not read the small print.... doesnt mean to say that the pills are right for you. i only know because my boy suffers with anxiety so i read the small print so that 1 is out, the next one, he has kidney probs so that one is out, so only left with the expensive one that you cannot get easily "fact of life here" lol

Eeeeek! Worth travelling to RAK for - this was 2 days ago (Sunday). I have no idea what it would have cost if we'd got it done at a private hospital. The malaria tablets recommended by the vaccination department at the hospital cost AED 34.50 for 6 at a pharmacy in Mirdif CC. be careful to read up on the malaria pills the side affects are awful. the mefloquine is what the hosp give out here but the side affects are terrible, anxiety, suidice, depression (if you have any of these anxiety probs you shouldnt take them) among the other usual side effects, the other one is doxcycoline but then this can give you photosensitivity and renal probs, so the alternative is malarone which are very expensive, but you do not need to take as many and there are only headaches and sickness as the side affects.

Have you tried the government hospitals? We live in RAK and called (the private) RAK Hospital who were out of stock but managed to get it done at the government hospital, Saqr Hospital, within 30 minutes of showing up, and for AED 20. you are lucky to pay 20dhs now.... that was the case a few years ago, but now in ad they have put their prices up the first jab they charge 232 and then 101 each jab thereafter!!
