Is there anyone in "the know" on EW who can explain all the flight delays at the moment? Im stuck in Bahrain trying to get home for an early nights sleep (was due to depart 6om local time, no sign yet of when or if my flight will depart). There are 5-6 delayed flights, all by several hours or not announed yet like mine. I know its Eid but unless there are passengers on the runway, I cant see that making any difference......least Im in the lounge, even if the ac is on scottish temps! TIA

Wow. My husband was delayed from Gulf Air coming from Bahrain last night as well -- but only by about an hour. His flight was at 8:30 but work wrapped up early and he tried to get on any flights into Dubai from about 3:00 pm onwards. There was nothing -- all overbooked and most delayed. I say he should count himself lucky now. I am so sorry.

Sorry the runway comment was in reference to the "lots of delayed flights"/Dubai mention. It was happening yesterday so even if it wasn't the cause of your flight delay it certainly wouldn't have helped. Sounds like the Gulf Air staff need to g back to customer service school! Unfortunately, 'lie to the customer' is a game that many seem to be taught to play these days. I used to work as ground supervisor and I always made my staff tell the truth- as far as would reasonably not cause a panic/problem. If we didn't know, we would say so- we don't know anything and as soon as we do we will tell you. Even if it's just to say, we will come back in one hour, to say we still don't know anything, is better than being left for hours with no communication at all! Sadly a lot of these staff might feel as though they don't get paid enough to deal with it (sad but true). And having seen how SOME people act.... (I am sure people were very reasonable, but there is always one) as soon as one person kicks off and becomes abusive, the staff tend to shut down and run away rather than deal with it. Not saying it's right but I've observed it on many occasions. Times like these need a good manager on the ground and often at these bad times of night that doesn't happen. Sorry to hear about your experience, do let us know if you get a response from Gulf Air!!

Thats horrendous! They dragged it out with false promises so they would not have to fork out for hotels and food for all the stranded passengers. Abismal airline. I think if there's a delay of over a certain number of hours you have to be accomodated and offered food, so they clearly have failed in that regard. They obviously don't give a stuff about their passengers. Hope you are recovered now and safely home.

Guess what, Im still here. Im in the same lounge I was sat at nearly 12 hours ago. The flight was delayed for over 2hrs. We got on the plane, we sat down. It was announced there was a fuel leak in one of the engines, they closed that engine down, we headed to engineering for them to take a look, they took a look, there was a leak, they took another look, they coudnt fix the leak. They ordered buses for us, we waited patiently to get off the plane to ge ton the buses, we went back to transfers and moved fomr pillar to post to person and Gulf Air were ignorant, blanked every customer and didnt care. I couldnt get hold of anyones names, number or job title. I guess Gulf Air went for Eid holidays and didnt care about their customers. After 2hrs of waiting and wondering and asking and getting nowhere, a gentleman in the Cathay Pacific Lounge told me the flight was rescheduled for 255am. I waited patiently. The healthy eating was cancelled, the carbs and alcohol were back in the game. I sat some more, and at 245am Gulf Air cancelled the 255am flight. As if they didnt know this before. Apparently there was no other plane, they pretended to try and fix the exisiting plane and bought themselves a few hours of quiet. From what I have seen and heard today they have lost a large number of customers, and some of them may well be in jail by now with the frustration and anger that was vocalised to untrained staff without any provided information or guidance from managers. Im now over 24hrs awake, Ive lost my sense of humour and I just want to go home. My heart goes out to the sinle parents (mostly) and families with children who have been give no priority bookings or advice, the complaints list from one flight alone is going to keep Gulf Air busy for many weeks to come. Dilmun Lounge will be making a loss for the time I have been sat here. Forget the air show, I really dont give a s^$t. And its nothing to do with maintenance. Its an ill prepared, incompetent airline dumping on their front line staff and customers, laughing that they are making money. The day Gulf Air folds or admits a loss, is the day I will smile with satisfaction. Karma, it affects big business and airlines too. Now I need all your prayers, wishes, and good karma that I get on my flight so I can go feed my cats and my friends 4 cats who I am kitty sitting from tomorrow.

Single runway operations for a few hours. So, landings & takeoffs from the same runway, with larger spacing as required. Not sure of the exact reason but it happens every so often for maintenance. Be prepared if you are flying around the time of Dubai Air Show (13th-17th Nov) things will be single runway ops for periods of time to allow flying displays, & arrivals of visiting aircraft to take place. I think they have a big window in the afternoon to get all the flights out before they go back to using one runway. Also there's been fog very regularly s you might have noticed which always jams things up in DXB with the arriving flights being late and having a knock-on effect on the ones those planes operate afterwards. Most Gulf Air flights from BAH to DXB have been delayed today, by the looks of it. The 5pm one departed only about 20 mins late, but others have been delayed by 45 mins to an hour. You should leave tonight, with any luck, but you won't get an early night, I'm sorry to say.

Emirates delays are averaging 2hrs, Gulf Air 2hrs or unknown, whatever BN is (Brunei) also delayed for over 2hrs. Most that are delayed arent saying anything, they just remain on the board.....
