Hi ladies,

I'll be getting married at home in September but we need to attend marriage prep classes before, so we will need to do them here. Has anyone been and can recommend a church to go to?

Thanks!

A few days ago I put some information about St. Mary's as two of my friends are speakers for these classes but it must have been on another thread. They are held on the third Friday of each month from 8.30 a.m. and it is one session. It is a requirement that at least one of the partners should be R.C. You need to register at the Parish Office that is within the church compound. edited by amelia on 27/01/2012

I am Catholic but DH is not. We did our first prep class at St Mary's because they said it was not going to be a problem. But when we contacted St Francis, which is closer to where we live, to discuss wedding dates the priest said we would have to go in for an interview and indicated that DH might have to get christened. Was he just having a bad day??? To be perfectly frank I did not feel 'welcome with open arms' in my own church.

We did ours at the Catholic Church next to DESS - St Marys I think. My husband is Catholic and I am not. Also, you can do them at Jebel Ali. Can't remember the Father's name now - it was 14 years ago.

This is not the case. Not sure where you got your information from. There are many many mixed faith people dating and marriages at St Francis, they are welcomed with open arms. Depends on your and your husband's-to-be religion. The Catholic church would only do it when both parties are Catholic. We did ours at the Anglican Church also in Jebel Ali, Chistchurch. The priest there is super cool and makes the session extra fun with YouTube videos etc. They are happy to marry/do prep classes for couples of mixed faiths, provided that none of the two are Muslim. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Actually only one of you has to be Catholic to do your marriage prep at St Francis. The course details are as follows (from their website): 'Every 2nd week of January, March, May, July, September and November from Monday to Thursday from 20:00 to 21:00.'
