I've had Cara design and make jewellery for me too and it's been superb. the best were a pair of earrings from a ring and a friend of mine designed a necklace herself and had Cara make it up - it's stunning and every time she wears it she has comments about it. Make sure they know you live here and are not tourists - not sure if that makes a difference. they knew me and I would take people in there. Also had lovely jewellery made by Manish in G&D park - ask for Jay.

If you feel like going to Sharjah to the Blue Souk, Al Sabaik is AWESOME. I gave them a rough idea of what I wanted for a ring and they delivered. It is so beautiful. They are also very honest and from my experience, if you don't like what they do with the piece you've commissioned, they'll redo it. If you go there, they are on one of the bridges all the way at the end. Best way to explain is if you are coming from Dubai (from 11 - I think it turns into 113 or something like that) and turn down King Faisal street (112?), when you approach the souk, there is water to the left of it. There are 2 buildings (left and right) connected overhead by 2 bridges (near and far in relation to coming from Dubai). They are on the far bridge, first shop on the right if you are entering from the right sided building. I cannot love this store more than I do. They do really great Arabic name stuff too.

There is a fabulous British qualified Gemoligist here in Dubai that I have used for numerous things, that was recommended through a friend of mine. She designs Jewellery and also redesigns old jewellrey if you need things tweeking/ complete re-design. I have had my engagement/wedding ring redesigned, Old famiily heirlooms melted down and designed into a beautiful pendant. Her prices are very good too.
