Hi ladies, DD is 9 months old and started to walk last week, she is becoming really good on her feet now and wants to be on the floor. I wanted to get her a pair of shoes for when we are outdoors, like in the park. I was wondering where I can get her feet measured so the shoes are a proper fit. What brand of shoes make good first shoes?

TIA

Oh the battle of keeping socks/shoes on! I hear you there. I have that battle at the moment with my 2 yr old. In fact, I think she's born naturalist as she objects to wearing any clothing at all! :D I loved the Bobux shoes because they protect their little soles, but seem to be so comfortable that my girls never objected to them. Although they are all leather, they have been worn in rain, mud and snow and wash up perfectly every time. :) Thats quiet funny! at 9 months DD can sort of undress herself, we were in ikea last week and I turned around to find her top half off! I could not help but giggle at her. Can I get the shoes here in Dubai or maybe even order from there? will they deliver here? They look super comfortable. ETA: the website is really helpful in terms of feet sizing. Very very informative. Thank you edited by moonbean on 01/03/2012 I don't know if you can get them in Dubai. I bought ours on visits to Australia. There is another brand which is very similar, and I believe just as good, that certainly used to be available in Dubai...off to research because the brand name escapes me!! When I was researching first shoes, I contacted the Bobux team and few times and they were very helpful. They may be happy to ship to you. :) ETA: http://www.justkidding-me.com/en/eshop/category,shoes - these are not the brand I was looking for (and very expensive!) but might be worth looking at Robeez! http://www.robeez.com - these are the ones I have read were available in Dubai. Hopefully someone will come along and confirm if they still are... edited by Green-ish on 01/03/2012

Thank you so much for all your replies. I am going to venture out tomorrow and get her a pair, Greenish I agree with you about letting her go barefoot, indoors and in malls then yes I am more then happy for her to go barefoot. To be honest she is always taking her socks off so I doubt shoes will be any different. We do go outside a lot now that the weather is nice, and today she hated being in her pushchair. She wanted to be on the ground. I just feel outdoors it would be best to have shoes. Once I know what size and so on I will look at ordering from UKe uk. Thank you so much again.

Bought DD's soft soled shoes Pediped from Pitter Patter (Dubai Mall), Shooshoos from a shop beside Pitter Patter and Beautiful Soles from JustKidding.

Until walking is really well established, bare feet is best. Bare feet allows them to feel the ground and work on proper balance. For outside (or cold weather!), very thin soled 'shoes' that allow bare feet movement are recommended. I'm not sure which brands are available in Dubai now, but I think until at least 12 months, you want to think about shoes like Bobux soft sole and similar styles - http://www.bobux.com.au/shop-online/girl-9-24-months/shoes/soft-sole Bobux are 100% leather and machine washable. The few pairs I bought were used by both of my daughters and a friend's children so they last very well. edited by Green-ish on 29/02/2012

I really like pediped and pablosky. Both DS and DD used them as first shoes. They have good styles that give the ankle support they need when they start walking.

I found a limited range of shoes here, albeit I did not check in Clarks. Once I knew the size, I ordered from Mothercare UK online and had them delivered here. They have a really good range and a lot cheaper than here!

You could get good first walker shoes (leather and with the proper support) from Clarks, Ecco and Pablosky. In each shop they can measure DD's feet, but please be aware that even within the same brand, the shoe sizes might vary, so it's better that you always try the shoes on. The proper fit would be DD's size + 1cms extra. Also, I would always try to bend the shoe to check whether the shoe is flexible (never bought the shoes if they were stiff) Oh, and would recommend to get the closed toe shoes so that a) the foot won't slide front b) DD won't hurt her toes if she trip or fall.

Hi Moonbeam, I would also say Clarks are probably the best for kids shoes at this age. We got our LO's first walking shoes from Clarks in Deira City Centre, they did a proper fitting and they also did the polaroid and certificate. They are the only place I have seen out here that do width sizes too.

Clarks has a great reputation for children's shoes in the UK. Tere is a branch in Dubai Mall, upstairs near where M&P is.We got DD fitted in Clarks when we were home for chirstmas. They have three ranges for babies - pram shoes (for non walkers) cruisers (very soft soled to allow for foot flexing) and first walkers. They do a proper fitting: size, width and arch height are all taken into account. In the UK we even got a polaroid picture done of DD in her shoes and given to us in a 'My first shoes' pack, it was so cute. I was surprised that out here a lot of places dont do width fittings for childrens shoes, which seems odd to me.
