Not sure if this is old news,but I have just got a email from
a friend in the US warning about area codes 809, 284 & 876.
Apparently the caller phones with a generated message that you are to call
a no. begining with 809 etc. re. a family member who is ill or has been
arrested or you have won a prize.
The no is registered in the Dominican Republic and the fee for the call is
$ 2425 per minute !! Once you call the number they keep you on the line
for as long as possible,giving you the run around.
I know many of you have family in US and Canada so thought I would pass
it on,esp to those with elderley relatives.

@Monkey Face and edna welthorpe the warning I recieved was from a very reliable and trusted older friend. My intention was in the form of a warning,not to start a debate, argument or to attract snide sarcastic responses. I have many times admitted that I am not the smartest on the net however I do my best. If my thread has given the heads up to just ONE PERSON who has an elderley relative at home then something good has come of it. Even if the warning is a hoax it does remimd one to be ever careful.
