We ended up in Tecom for a while and found it quite ok. We were near Byblos and found most of what we needed in walking distance. The Park 'n Shop sells good quality fresh food (incl pork) and a good grocery selection. The Boutique 7 hotel has a couple of good bars, a sporty one and a nice garden style one too. We could walk to the nicer hotels too like the Rotana. The metro is close as is SZR if you're driving. We used to walk to the Greens for a nice afternoon stroll which was nice. There's a nice little French style cafe there too, can't remember the name of it but it was always full when we walked past and had a lovely breakfast there one day. Berts :-)

I love all the different views. I have lived in Tecom for 3 years and just renewed for another. It was very much a building site when we moved in but has lots going for it now. From where I am I can walk to the metro station in under 5 mins and walk to the Greens village in 5 minutes. I can also walk to Park n Shop in 5 mins and Carrefour in under 10 minutes. Geant is a little further and I normally use a car to go there. There's a supermarket at the bottom of my building, a beauty salon around the corner and a tasty new Indian restaurant that has just opened up downstairs (Hot n Spicy). There's also a medical clinic right near Park n Shop if you like the doctors there. It would be rude not to mention the various pubs that everyone enjoys and the other little restaurants that are open all over the place. I have access to a swimming pool and a kids pool as well as an indoor and outdoor play area for children and a grassed bbq area. Everything considered, I really enjoy living here and my kids, DH and I have plenty to do. Good luck in your choice! edited by Sandy on 05/07/2012

Well, I guess it all depends on OP's lifestyle. Personally, I don't find Tecom lifeless but I remember that vibe when I was new to the area. Once you get to know the places, it won't feel that way. More importantly, I guess Tecom has a young vibe - mostly singles or young couple. I find Greens dull and lifeless - but it's probably because I am more interested in pubs than in a green environment. In all fairness, I think if I raise a family, I would move to Greens. But for now, I'm enjoying Tecom.

When we moved to DXB, we decided against Tecom in favor of JLT for a number of reasons 1) The whole area had a very dark and lifeless vibe. One reason is that relatively few buildings had shops downstairs, though that is changing 2) If you work anywhere south of Tecom (Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi), you cant get directly on to SZR 3) Similarly when entering Tecom there is only 1 lane that enters the whole Tecom/Greens/Hessa St area, which leads to long lines at 6pm That said Tecom apts were generally cheaper and there were no AC Charges in most of them.

We've got a review of Tecom in our Property Guide section that may help as well... http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_property_guide_Tecom_8043.aspx

We lived in TECOM briefly and I didnt like it at all. I hate that there are no pathways, nothing to do downstairs and most buildings have very poor security. Not the place to be with kids IMO. If your single/couple then its ok. We have friends living there and trying to convincing my husband to move in their neighborhood. I agree totally with Hugsys for me i wouldn't be happt to live there as there is nothing around.

I have been in Tecom for 6 months now, living in Tower 7. The management are excellent, and its always full. When looking i went and saw many really grotty buildings in the area. Good value for money if you get the right building..........have a good look around. Good luck x

Got friends living in both places and the ones in Marina are more satisfied for various reasons....better developed, close proximity to the mall, supermarkets, the walk, beach, etc and traffic in Marina is not so bad in comparison to JBR

I'm moving to Tecom in two months time. And have been quite familiar with the area as I stay with my friend a lot of times. There are excellent pubs there and Greens Village is just a 5-minute drive away. No traffic at all. And the location is great. There is a new building that's opening on July, it's called Art VIII and the prices (specially for a 2-bed) is only 70k -- check out art8tecom.tumblr.com. I would say it is best to find a building near Byblos Hotel, as then it will be near to Park n Shop and Byblos' Crown and Lion. My friend lives near Media Rotana and it is also not bad as Nelson's just a stone's throw away and blumart in Comfort Inn delivers groceries 24 hours. When I first saw Tecom, I hated it because of the curved roads but now I would choose it anytime over Marina as there is never traffic in there. I have lived in JBR where traffic is a big part of my life! Sorry, can't recommend much about specific buildings though. I am supposed to be moving to my friends' flat who is leaving the country but she's now in talks with her employer about the possibility of renewing her contract so she might stay in Dubai but a plan is a plan so I'm still moving -- just need to find a good building. So I would also like to hear any recommendations! edited by everythingnice on 04/07/2012

I use to live in Madison and altough I loved the size and style of my apartment I had to move because the mould was so bad in the corridors. It seems to only effect one side of the building because half of the residence were quite happy and the other half absolutely hated it and couldn't turn on their AC because of the terrible mould smell. I'd be interested to hear what people have to say about other buildings in TECOM - I really liked living in that area.

TECOM is up and coming there are some good buildings like Manhatten towers, Madison, Warsan etc but also alot of junk. If your moving from Marina the biggest thing to get used to will be coming down in the lift and having no walkway/things to do. You can get buildings near to Media Rotana Hotel/Geant which are new and have good views over the sea/palm.
