Its great for a day trip from HK - I'm not keen on gambling but nice to see all those casinos. Visited Venetian, Wynn, and many others. It was a weekend and we bought one way ferry tickets, on the way back economy class was sold out but business class was not much more expensive.

Portuguese part is quite interesting, there's a large hill with a ruin at the top which makes for some good photos. When there we also visited a cute little temple there. Venetian was okay but the throngs of pushy shoving mainlanders on holidays annoyed us so much we only stayed a little while. Won $100 HKD though!! If you take a day trip you need a passport, also bear in mind some ferry companies only sell return tickets which are for a particular time. We had a one way ticket and figured we'd buy one going back whenever we wanted to leave. Got to 8pm and we were done, however the next available tickets were not until 11! Luckily we managed to get standby for a 9pm ferry and someone didn't show up otherwise we were in for a wait. So if you know when you want to go back probably best to find out if ticket is for a time slot or not.

Im okay with having to hang out at a fancy resort at Macau for a day or two since I have to suffer through Disneyland Hong Kong before that! ;)

Thanks ladies. Think we will stay a night or two to explore since we are going to Hong Kong anyways. Was going to say, yes, visit if you are going to Hong Kong anyway.

Not as a holiday as such, but ik makes a great day trip from Hong Kong. You can buy lovely colonial furniture at good prices and have it shipped cheaply all over the world.

I would say yes if you're in the vicinity! The gambling bit is quite fascinating and, I think, makes Dubai look quite tasteful. There are good shows in one of the hotel/casinos. A real spectacle. Outside the gambling centre, it is actually very picturesque with a mix of Chinese and Portuguese architecture and culture sitting cheek by jowl. Did a couple of day trips and also a long weekend and enjoyed both. There is also some Formula racing sometimes, it's not F1 but don't know what number and I've been told that is very good fun too.
