PL2, I also read that AVC does that(on another board, I believe you are a member of), didn't investigate if it is true and since I am one of their clients, hope it is not. Can provide the link for you if you like.

Thanks, I'm actually going to give them a call on Sunday and find out. I find it very strange - they are totally involved in Feline Friends here in AD and they have their faults (price!) but they are a good vet clinic. Edited to say - I'm not finding out wrt to having my cat declawed, btw!!! Just out of interest! edited by PuppyLove2 on 18/02/2011

Sabrina H, which is the vet in AD which does declawing? Would really like to know so that I can boycatt them.... Might also ask some questions of them which would hopefully prove embarrassing... It was the British Vets. I dont know if they still do, but they certainly used to. They would insist on a consult first (additional charge) and of course a few days recovery (another additional charge) By the way, I have never had my cats declawed, or ever even considered it, Its just I used to work at a vets here in Dubai and I was doing some reasearch for a very persistent client! I think the cost put her off in the end. :)

Unless things have changed, there is no one in Dubai that will do declawing. (there is a vet in AUH who charges loads, probably in the hope of putting people off, but then why offer it? ) So I wonder where he had it done. Poor kitten, some people are so selfish, no consideration for the cat at all!

Don't want to offend but would rather not :( Sure no problem, just wondering if these people were selling these de-clawed kittens as I would like to report it, not for the de-clawing (although that does add to the motivation) but I would report them for selling animals which isn't allowed... poor kittens.

Thanks all for input. Decided against getting kitten. Figure if theres a market out there for declawed cats we weren't going to add to it. Have adopted a fantastic ex feline friends cat yesterday and he's the most friendly animal in the world! Loves loveys and not a mean bone in his body, Big softy. Feeling blessed to have found him :) Highland Lass, can you provide the link to these kitty's? tnx

I don't know SueB Been thinking about it all day, I'd never heard of it before, totally barbaric. Don't want to do anything to encourage something like that but also feel like taking more than 1 (think there are 4 altogether) as I know we could give them a happy home. Seems the least they deserve. Don't know what to do :( are they selling it or giving it away?

This is still common practice in the USA - I've seen many many declawing surgeries done during my time as a vet assistant. And when I worked at the shelter there, a declawed cat was actually seen as more adoptable (because they couldn't rip up the furniture). I know it is outlawed in other countries though, as it should be. Along with tail docking and ear cropping for dogs. I completely agree the practice is terrible and I never had it done to my own cats. I'm not sure where they would / could even get it done here?? Although I'm sure someone must be "declawing" all the "pet" lions and cheetahs! Obviously a declawed kitten / cat MUST be kept strictly indoors. Hopefully it was just a front-declaw and not all 4 paws.... (Lesser of 2 evils)
