Hi ladies,

Are there any items you find here that you wish you could have in your home countries? Anything your friends ask you to take or so? Anything you feel could get you some profit?

Thank you all ladies, once again. the idea is to take a few items when i go home and sell among friends and relatives and help with some income - I guess generators will not be a practical one but I'll suggest it to a friend who has a trading company, thanks Appletiser. edited by Marydots on 09/03/2011 in that case perhaps you should ask your friends and relatives what they might like to buy?

decorated pillow covers, table runners, cloths. Whenever we go to the Antique warehouse there is usually someone from North America putting in a huge order for stuff like this. I was in Toronto last year and came across a few specialty shops where goods like this were sold and let me tell you...the mark up was way over 100%...a pillow cover bought her for 40dhms (about 12.00 cdn) sold for $60.00 if not more for the larger ones so, the import business is good but you do have to pay Taxes unless you bring home a large box at a time when you travel :)

How about olive oil? I'm not expert but I've heard some of the best olive oil comes from Lebanon and as its hard to export directly from there, it is generally sent to other middle eastern countries and exported from there. Very lucrative if you can make the right connections.

definitely perfumes, oils, incense, frankincense(sourced from the region)...as i believe there is whole niche market for those products which is growing. That is what i would try.Even Sephora is selling oil perfumes. What do others think?

Authentic Camel Milk Chocolate. Although there are camels in Australia I don't believe the chocolate has been explored and as it is a niche market importing rather than producing may be more cost effective in any event. The product is unique and Australian's are renown for enjoying different foods. [i'>After all we Australians eat both of the animals on our coat of arms [/i'>

With the exception of dates and sand everything else has been imported to Dubai. There are lots of other countries that stock goods for the fraction of what you pay in Dubai, I don’t see what the point would be taking things out to resell Allegedly the sand in JBR beach and some of the sand in the golf course bunkers are imported from overseas. Not sure about JBR specifically, but certainly hotel beach sand is imported - the local stuff is considered too coarse. And bunker sand for golf courses is also imported for the same reason, funny though that seems. I met someone once who worked in Dubai in sand importation, which I thought was hilarious! I seem to remember him saying that local sand wasn't even suitable for construction! I think he said a lot of what he brought in was from Saudi. To the OP - no, it couldn't possibly be worth it. If there's a product that interests you as a business proporsition, it's almost certainly not from Dubai, so you could need to consider the import/export costs etc in relation to the country it is actually produced in. Where, for instance, are the pashminas sold locally made?

If it is for the Uk then places like Primark have very cheap scarves/ pashmina's, so be careful. edited by Hotpot on 07/03/2011
