How much do the services of a doula cost, approximately? And for what? Care before, during and after? Or just before and during the labour?

I had my son 1 month ago and I had the most wonderful doula! Check her out: http://ca-doula.blogspot.com/ We ended up having C-section after 24 h of labour and she was always there. She's a wonderful lady, and she supported me before and after birth also.

Thank you for the 'shout outs' you mums of my doula babies. One poster on another thread gave good advice, go to the doulas websites, read the testimonials etc and make an informed choice from there. There are far more babies being born here in Dubai, than there are doulas to 'doula' them, the benefits of having a doula are great, and bring all the risk factors of having an 'intervention' down. Read the statistics.

Silvia Winkler of http://www.my-doula.com/ rules! She was my doula at my last birth. I had another doula for my first child (who left the country) I cant recommned doulas enough... they are simply the best friends you have when u go into labor!

Before someone more knowledgeable answers I *think* it's between 3 - 5,000 AED for a birth doula. She will meet you several times before the birth to discuss preferences, provide information and answer questions and be available for telephone support leading up to the birth too. She will of course attend your actual birth and be on call for that event for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your due date. Bargain!! <em>edited by BrownEyedGirl on 21/03/2011</em>

I had Cecile and she's worth her weight in gold! I can't remember what she charged us - a number is coming to mind, but I don't want to quote it in case I get it wrong. Whatever it was, I know my husband and I thought is was REALLY worth it. She is HIGHLY approachable on her charges as she has different options I ie with pre natal classes/breastfeeding help/sleep help etc). Don't feel the slightest bit embarrassed to call her and ask.

agree with what ccdoha said...best thing ever... truthfully, there are so many threads about doulas here in EW, do a search... really really recommend having a doula, it cuts down from having a c-sect by 50%!! oh, also, there is going to be a meet up with doulas and other mothers tom who have had doulas for birth at mini monsters... do a search on fb for the fairy god mother club... hope to see you tom? good luck!! S

I know a doula here in Qatar and if had a baby, I can't imagine not having a doula. Seems much more useful than DH! She explained that she will make sure your wishes are all seen to i.e. birthing plan, etc. at a time when you might not be thinking too clearly and you are vulnerable. I think it is the best idea ever to have someone who is level headed and clear thinking at the most important time of your life.
