I think you should do it. I had the same happen to me and I've always regretted that I didn't open a case. I know of at least one person who has won their case. It cost me a lot to move and I wish I'd at least tried to recoup the money.

I can imagine how stressful this is for you and deep down you know it's so wrong. However, you know the landlord is wrong and so do they so let karma take its course. Don't let this stress you out and spoil your new place. As another poster said, the landlord will probably say it's family. Move on and be thankful that you don't have a landlord like that anymore. There are so many people like that in the world and yes, sometimes one has to put up a fight and show them that's it's wrong but I'm not sure Dubai is a place to do that. :(

The law is on your side, but doesn't mean you will win. You will have to pay a fair bit for the court case, which will be returned if you win. Do you want to go to court etc to prove your point, if so knock yourself out? There are always exceptions to the rules, like it might be a family member living there or whatever.

My friend went the legal route, they had what we all thought was a water tight case - guess what? Came down on the side of the LL. Sadly laws which profess to be in favour of tenants, very often aren't. Exactly the same happened to a friend of mine. Still no idea how she lost as the black and white of the law was 100% on her side.

as per law the LL is obliged to pay for full 1 year rent of your new apartment that is if you win. never came across such situation so dont know how effective will be putting up the case.

I wouldn't bother, you're not going to gain much and lose a lot of your money in the process. Doesn't seem worth it to me. I have read other posters on here who did the same thing and it turned out to be massively stressful and cost them a lot too.

Is the property still for sale? I think they can only not re-rent it if they have said they are moving in.

Has anyone had any experience opening a case with RERA against a landlord who has evicted the tenant because he is selling the property, but then actually rented it again? I was in the property for 2 years. After the first year he wanted to increase the rent from 90k to 115k, I pointed out that he couldn't and had to abide by the rental calculator, so it only went up to 95k, but that came with a 12 month eviction notice. I've been out of that property for 2 months and there is now a new tenant living there. I have proof of this as they've opened a new DEWA account which has been verified by someone at RERA. It's going to cost me around AED 3,500 to open a case against LL so my question is - is it worth it? I have no idea how much compensation I'd be looking at even if I won. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
