Hi Ladies,

This site is amazing!!! I wanted to see if you could help me out! I am moving to Dubai with my family this summer (Husband, and 3 kids- age 7/4/1). My husband will be working near the airport. I will be at home and plan to homeschool my older two kids.

I wanted to get your advice on where we should live. I have lived in suburbia my entire life, and was hoping for a completely new experience. I would like to try the apartment life in a lively area that is still kid friendly. In my research, I have found that JBR/Marina area seems like it would fit the bill. Thoughts on JBR/Marina with kids? Would JBR/Marina be too incredibly far for my husband? Are there any other areas in Dubai that I should consider that have the type of thing i'm looking for?

Thank you sooooo much for all your insight!

I agree with all that Executive towers, or even south ridge, would fit your needs. The metro is very close to both, but it runs parallel to the water, not going towards it. That being said, downtown is about a 10 minutes taxi ride (less than 5 dollars), to get to the beach.

A lot of people working for airlines seem to live in Mirdif - but I don't know it well personally.

awesome! thanks for the insight! I was really hoping to have that beach life! hahaha, maybe we can find a place near metro so that could be solved? I'll definitely look into the executive towers! we are coming from the States, not UK. I appreciate your input and offer to help. i look forward to this new adventure!!!

The Marina/JBR is really nice, but far from the airport and biggest problem is the traffic going into the Marina at certain hours, not fun to sit in traffic jam after already quite a journey. Downtown is closer and similar lifestyle apart from the beach, but you wouldn't be far from the beach, about 20 min in car or taxi.

the traffic around jbr is still hideous. It's a great location but very busy with tourists especially now the Beach Walk is finished. it's not a great commute for your husband unless you live near the metro and he gets the metro in...... Executive Towers up by Burj Khalifa might be a good option for you. We stayed in our friends apartment there and it was fantastic. Lots of places for the kids to play - really nice gym and gorgeous pools. Where are you moving from? If UK - I am back in UK now but would be very happy to answer any questions you have as we've done the move - we had tons of fun and were there when our kids were little. The apartments in Dubai are huge!
