Medcare or City for c/s? What's the verdict these days?

Hi,
I'm due for a c-section in about 2 weeks. I delivered DD1 in Medcare by c/s a little over 2 years ago and had a great experience. At the time my doctor gave me the choice of Medcare or City, but City was brand new at the time and I didn't want to take chances with new facilities, new staff, etc.
For this pregnancy, I am with the same doctor and she is again giving me the choice as she works with both. I know hospital staff change and turnover causes issues, so these days which is better? Has anyone had a c/s in either to let me know how it went? The doctor doesn't matter as I have my own but the nurses and the neonatal doctors are my main concern.
Thanks!

Thanks JShepherd and granola! That's the vibe I'm getting about Medcare these days too. I was there the other day and was sent from one desk to another because noone listened to my question - they just heard one word and assumed I was asking about one thing or another. Thanks a million! Who is your dr DM? Hi Simpsons. My doctor is Najat Hazimeh at Dr. Suleiman Al Habib Medical Centre in DHCC. She is great. With my first pregnancy she was new to Dubai so gave me a lot of her time. Now she is super busy and always in a hurry but I don't mind as she still answers all my questions, puts me at ease and I've been through it all before. good luck!

during my first apointment in medcare few months back, just for general checkup, i just hated that place. nobody answers your questions and doc also seemed to be in hurry. recently one of my friend also gave birth there but didn't had a good experience there. and please don't go for international modern as the staff there is very slow. they took whole day to prepare discharge papers! i also have to decide soon where to go for delievery but i am reading quite alot of positive exp about city.

I had my first appointment when I was preggers at Medcare and really was not impressed- everything seemed so chaotic and disorganised. They took us on a tour of their mat ward and it was the same situation as above. I then changed to city and ended up having my DS there by C/S and totally loved the experience. The hospital is amazing to say the least- the staff are wonderful and if anything a bit over-attentive but it was so great to know we were in good hands. If I were ever pregnant in Dubai again no doubt I would go to City! :)

It's not that they were bad at Medcare, it's just that I thought they were very inattentive. Yes I have to agree with that - its almost as if the nurses have been told to back off or just let the mother's get on with it IYKWIM some people like that and maybe its not there fault as some people like to do everything, who knows? But I would have been happier this time around if they had been a bit more hands on like the first time I went 3.5 years ago. In saying that some of the nurses were lovely and I'm still really glad I had both my babies there.

I had a c section at Medcare first 3.5 years ago and that was just fine as they just opened and I had a LOT of care and attention, I felt in very good hands and they couldn't do enough for me. This time around 3 months ago it was a completely different experience still good, but just different. I can't compare to other hospitals ect I think as long as you are happy with YOUR doc and the anesthetist then that's the main thing.

I didn't have a c-section, but I gave birth at Medcare. I would go to City. It's not that they were bad at Medcare, it's just that I thought they were very inattentive. We go to City for any A&E and they are wonderful and the NICU at City is really great.

Thanks so much Shelly for your post :D My doctor has told me that a lot of her patients are choosing International Modern Hospital these days and they are happy. She delivers there too but that is not one of my first two choices. My DH asked me to check out City for DD2 because he had reservations about Medcare. He broke his leg after DD1 was born and he got cared for by both Medcare and City. On the day, Medcare x-rayed his foot but not high enough on the shin to see if there were other broker bones. He came home with supposedly 2 fractures around his ankle. 3 weeks later at the follow-up x-ray with City, they x-rayed correctly and found a third broken bone:\: He knows broken bones and babies are 2 different things but wanted me to ask around and consider City this time round :) He also loved the facilities! I should go for a tour of City then! If anyone else has any stories for or against I am all ears!

I had a CS at City and I have to tell you it was by far THE most amazing experience ever! Every single person in that operating theatre was nothing short of AMAZING! They even played music while my DD was being born. Once DD was born they were very proactive in doing what they had to do in order to quickly get her onto my chest for skin to skin as well as breast feeding. I was so surprised at how quickly my DD was given to me. I know City has had a bit of a negative reaction lately due to it being so busy, and the mat ward was full when i was there, but all the staff during my whole stay were absolutely brilliant. Very warm and caring! IMO there is no comparison between City and Medcare. One of my friends had a CS at Medcare and it was a horrendous experience for her in so many ways. I know each case is different though. Maybe you could ask your OB what hospital she 'prefers'?
